Re: Is the Dark knight shooting affecting you wanting to see it?

DH and I saw it last night - we bought the tickets a few weeks ago and all day yesterday, I was incredibly sad and sick over the victims but I was still seeing the movie and was going to enjoy it. We got there like an hour early to get good seats and we were watching everyone come in and as more and more people came in, I found myself getting more and more nervous because if one crazy person can do it in Colorado, anyone can do it anywhere. I was thinking of it the whole movie and was constantly looking around. I still enjoyed the movie but not as much as I think I would have.

I didn't want to see it before and still don't. But DH wants to see it- and I will probably go because I feel like men going in to see this movie alone will be harassed and scrutinized. I know that's probably alarmist and silly but everything about this is very upsetting.

Re: Is the Dark knight shooting affecting you wanting to see it?

Nope, doesn't impact me. I don' think it had anything to do with he movie (though I haven't read up in the last 24 hours). I think he guy picked it because he knew it would be crowded and loud.

I feel bad for Warner Bros and everyone involved in the movie because it's not going to do nearly as well as it would have, and it's through no fault of their own.

Yes. I'm not scared about it happening if I go see it, but I feel like I wont be able to enjoy it because I will be thinking about the victims. I just feel so deeply saddened and disturbed by this and I know I wont be able to enjoy the movie. I was really looking forward to going with my husband tonight, but I'm going to pass for now. I just don't feel right.

This is one of the very few movies that my DH wanted to go see (he is not a big movie in theatre guy). I planned on going with him bc he was so into it but now I won't. No fuckingg way.

We have had plans for weeks to meet friends of ours in the city to see this today.

We are still going, but I'm completely freaked out about.

I am not scared but, I feel weird enjoying the movie with all that happened. DS won a Batman blow up down the shore yesterday and I felt weird about that.

Yes, it's not worth it when it will be On Demand in a few months. There are always copycat psychos - it's unlikely but even people doing things as a joke, it's not worth dealing with that fear. Sorry if that is unreasonable, but I would never work in the new WTC buildings either.

I'm not scared, I don't think it would happen again. But there is no way I could watch it without thinking about those poor people.

Re: Is the Dark knight shooting affecting you wanting to see it?

No. I still want to see it. Though what happened in CO was sad, horrific, and tragic, it wasn't specifically *this* movie that motivated him. He is clearly sick and insane, and if it wasn't the movie, it would have been some other place where groups of people gathered where he shot up.

My feeling is, if all the tragedy in the world has taught us anything, that you have to live life. Anything can happen anywhere - a car accident, an illness, or a crazed psycho - and so if you live your life always thinking "what if," then you will never do anything worth speaking of. Not that I am for taking unnecessary risk, but I don't see going to a movie as an unnecessary risk.

Re: Is the Dark knight shooting affecting you wanting to see it?

Honestly, a little bit. I probably won't see it in the theaters. Not that I'm afraid, but I know I'd just be thinking about what happened. This one hit me hard for some reason.

We saw it the next day as well.
If I lived like that I'd never have flown ever again after 9/11, I'd never go into NYC after 9/11, etc etc etc
Something like this can happen anywhere.
There was a shooting in a mall a few years ago- so then I'd never be able to go to the mall
It could just go on and on until you are hiding under your bed. Then a plane crashes into your house and you aren't even safe there anymore.... kwim?

Same here.

The only reason I didn't see this movie this wknd was because I had too much going on with houseguests.

The moment I get a chance I'm going to see it and enjoy it because I am a huge Batman fan and love the series.

This. I'm still planning to go at some point because DH really wants to see it, but I don't know whether I'll really enjoy it. Just thinking about it now makes me feel kinda somber. Chat Icon

I said it in another post but I really don't want to see it now. It's nothing to do with fear. I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about what happened to those people and what they went through. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it, I feel it's tainted the movie. I think it would especially bother me since it's such a violent movie and these people died violently . . . Now here I am being "entertained" by this? It just doesn't sit right with me.

Re: Is the Dark knight shooting affecting you wanting to see it?

I had a nightmare lastnight that i was sitting in a theatre or something and i made a comment to a friend while i was watching a show calling someone a witch in the show and the person said did i hear someone call us a witch and she came up to me and said do you know what this show is about? and i got scared and said No, all of a sudden the door opens and someone shot a gun at me at my throat i woke up startled.. So maybe in a way it affected me in a way. Would i go see the movie now? I'm not sure because im a little nervous but i cant be afraid to see the batman movie because any psycho can go to any movie and do that.
