Is sept. 23rd too late to go apple picking?
I plan on going sept 23rd to lewins but now I'm wondering if I should go the 16th instead for prime picking?

I would go earlier, I remember last year it was slim pickins in late sept.

You might want to go tomorrow or Saturday - by Sunday they might have all blown off the trees!
For the first time ever I have a good crop of tomatoes on my plants and I'm expecting the winds to do some damage to them. I was talking to the lady at the farmstand tonight on the way home and she was saying if the winds are bad it could rip the last of the corn right out of the ground. I feel badly for the vinyard owners out east - I think it's a bit early to harvest a lot of the crops but this wind and rain could do a real number on them.

2 years ago we went in late September to Lewin, and were surprised at how little was left. I'd recommend going earlier

OMG I love this post
Well, considering that, if you read the 20 other posts currently on this board, this storm is going to apparently wipe everything off the face of the earth, so I say any apple picking after this weekend will be too late! 
It depends on where you go and really more so on what type of growing season the orchards have had. Different varieties of apple come in at different times. Best thing is to call the orchard or check their website...if the internet is still in existence!

One of the owners of one of the local orchads told me last week that apple picking would start by next week for pick your own.
Apple picking is really in September. For best selection by mi-september.
Fruits might not even be ready for this weekend.

I went out east last year late September and there really weren't any left. I am going to go earlier this year. That is, if there are any apples left on the trees after this storm!

same here. although it all depends on the storms/winds. last year, we went during Columbus Day weekend to Barton's upstate and there were still plenty of apples
