Is mozzarella a no-no for an 11 month-old?

We gave DD some string cheese with her lunch today, and she absolutely loved it. She ate a great dinner tonight, and then without any warning she threw up allllll over the place. I would say this was her first "real" vomit. It looked and smelled like the real thing

Were we not supposed to give this to her? This is the only new thing she had today...

I read somewhere that mozz cheese was a good first cheese (not fresh of course). Sorry she got sick!

YOu can give Polly=o or any brand that says pasteurized. Make sure it says it, for ex Sorrento isn't considered pasteurized and doesn't say it (I have called them, they say it's ok but it isn't technically pasteurized). No fresh mozz for sure.

It probably just didn't agree with her. My DD loves it and eats it often.

Did she get any hives too? Jaidy has a milk allergy and has thrown up from it. Or it could just be bad timing and she caught a bug at the same time as you giving it to her for the first time.

My DD is also 11 months and she throws up every time she eats cheese...she has a dairy allergy though...

I've been giving them string cheese for months now, they love it and are fine with it.
I buy the Trader Joe's organic ones.

It could be coincidental.

ETA: Jonah has puked twice like that so far, and I have no idea why.
The second time was this past Monday and he did it in the crib while he was sleeping. I ran in there when he cried weird and he was face down in it.
I called the ped and slept with him that night. When we went in the next day, he didn't seem concerned that it was a food thing. Sometimes kids just throw up. It could even be she ate too much.

DS has had mozzarella since about 9 months old

Thanks everyone. Whew, I thought maybe I gave her something that was on the forbidden list.

DD has been on whole milk now for about a week, so I don't think it's a dairy allergy...I'm gonna be kinda scared to give it to her now, though

My DS had it at that age - i get the horizon organic cheese stick ones - never had a problem - maybe just a coincidence?

i do the horizon string cheese all the time, like every day pretty much (she loves it) BUT i never knew about the fresh mozzerella thing, we actually started with that..thank G'd shes ok, i didnt even think about the whole pasterization thing,..dumb mommy..
it was organic, if that helps any.

Sorry that she got sick. We give DS mozzarella cheese all the time and he is the same age. Hope she is feeling better now!

I've been giving DD string cheese for a while....I would not give her fresh mozzerella though...
