Is it weird that I find this weird?
Why is it that my MIL has sent my DH 2 emails in the past 2 days about whether or not he, myself, and our DS has a life ins. policy???? Or course we do- but Im not sure why this is her business at all...
I mean if she wants to remind her son to make sure he has a good enough policy to take care of his family thats one thing... but myself and our son- well thats another...
We all know my MIL is a whackadoo- but is it wrong this angers me to no end???? I find this extra freaky since recently we heard from SIL that my MIL had sent her an email telling her they need to "prepare" to take my DS if anything were to happen to us.... (cold day in hell they would EVER get him!)
So is it weird that Im bothered by this???

Daddy and I want to know if you have life insurance on yourself? How much and do you have insurance on DW and DS.
We would like to know as soon as possible.

It is kind of weird. I was thinking maybe they are working on their wills & such but your insurance status would have no bearing on that.

I will say that the other email mentions a policy that they had for DH and whether or not he'd like to cash it in or take it over BUT that still makes no sense on why they need to know about me and DS policy!

Considering you got that email, I would quickly make sure that your wills are in tact so you can be sure your son is cared for the way you want him to be.
You would be surprised how parents get - whatever their motivation is, sometimes they cannot see their children as responsible adults.

I agree. I know you think there's a cold day in hell but there is no question that this woman is going to fight tooth & nail.
And yes, the emails are completely bizarre. I would reply with "My family is taken care of, but thank you for your concern"

That lady has been in your business since day 1. For your own sake, have a will written out and make sure she doesn't have custody of your son. As for the life insurance policy, tell her to MYOB.

I don't know the history with your MIL but I do not find it all that weird. My dad has a policy on me - has since I was a child. It may be cheaper for me to take over that policy and add DH & a child rather than buy a new policy.
Not that your MIL has this in mind but I know if my dad asked those questions it would be because he researched it and probably had a meeting with his financial advisor soon to talk about me taking over my policy which he still pays for on my behalf.
As for planning for your DS, I think it's great that she is making provisions for your DS "just in case." My dad's friend recently lost his 25 year old daughter to cancer so it's always advisable to plan for the "just in case." Should those funds never be needed then that will be your DS's new car for graduation or maybe college tuition She may not be up to anything sinister.

ITA!!! My parents and my In laws would do something like this but it would not mean anything bad.
