Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
I just got into a fight with my mom. She said I should wait until after my shower to see what I get.
I told her that people don't put baby furniture on their registry. I said most people will buy the little stuff. She thinks its too early to order.
She said that between the baby shower and now the baby furniture. it is costing them too much money.
What should I do? I am due in January.
I am so upset. I just spent the whole time crying and I hung up the phone. I just feel like my mom isn't happy about this baby. DH and I are both nearly 30 and we have been married for a few years. I just wish she was as excited like most moms.

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
I'm so sorry that she isn't giving you the support
I'm not due until the end of March and I ordered my furniture over the weekend. DH and I plan on doing our nursery in mid-October. The furniture will be in by the end of Sept.
I agree that people generally don't buy furniture off the registry. If I didn't get my furniture now, I wasn't putting it on my registry anyway. But you can always try and see what happens!!

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
We ordered ours two weeks ago and it's supposed to come the first week in November. Kinda crazy.
I know some people do put furniture on their registry, especially if you're thinking of getting furniture from places like Target or Wal-Mart.
I'm sorry your mom is being less than enthusiastic. My mom pulled the same crap on me and basically said she considers it terrible I want to have a shower at all and practically called me a pauper for wanting to do it since it's like I "have my hand out begging."
She got over it.
Try not to let your mom get to you if you can... I know it's almost impossible, but it's definitely not worth the aggravation.
Do you know when your shower is going to be?

Thanks so much! I am sure I will be fine tomorrow. I am just upset. My shower is a surprise. I have not even registered yet. I am thinking its going to be in Nov or early december the latest. I just wish she was more supportive like most moms.

def not too early....DS was due in January and we ordered ours around this time and didn't get it until about November....sometimes you don't get the pieces right away. I def wouldn't wait until the last minute - it's your furniture, order it when you want to!

order them whenever you're ready to order them and have the money to do so. I don't see why you should wait. Unless of course you ARE putting these things on the registry (which is fine too). I've been trying to figure out what to do about that. My MIL has originally said to put all of that stuff on there (I think she wants to get the furniture for us) but I still didn't decide if we'll just do it ourselves.

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
It depends on where you're ordering from. BRU and BBB have many items in stock that you can get right away, but with retailers like Behr's, you often have to wait 10 weeks or so. I'm due in December and we ordered from Behr's mid-August. Our furniture is expected to arrive early October. It's plenty of time, but with the holidays, I really want the nursery set up as early as possible.
I'm sorry that you feel your mom isn't excited Maybe she was just having an overwhelmed moment.

I am due 1/7/11 and I ordered mine 2 weeks ago.....Behr said it would take 10 -12 weeks so I would order, but u should really ask mom if she is planning on buying stuff......if you order from behr they only require a 1/3 deposit and it can be fully refunded, so u could order then cancell if someone buys for u

i put our baby furniture on our registry... just the crip & changing table
MIL already bought us the changing table & i think my mom is getting us the crib
it may be worth a shot to just put it on your registry & see what happens!

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
From your post it sound slike your mom is planning on buying you the furniture and throwing your shower, so maybe she is just a bit overwhelmed with all the price tags coming along with everything in such a short amount of time. I would talk to her and if she is planning on paying for the furniture, maybe offer to pay half, or order it all now and pay on your own and maybe she will give you the money. Have you looked at furniture yet? If you picked out furniture already, ask the salesperson how long it will take to come in and tell your mom, or show her some of the furniture websites that say furniture takes 10-12 weeks at times to come in.
I am sure she is just overwhelmed at the moment with everything. Give her a week or two. Inthe mean time go out, look around and see what you want. It took us a few trips to several different stores to pick out furniture.

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
Honestly, it sounds like your mom is just overwhelmed by the costs of everything. Just give her some time. I don't think it is too early to order furniture but I also know of people that have put it on their registries and received different pieces from close family members. Also, all you really need when the baby arrives is a place for him/her to sleep -- crib, bassinet, cradle, etc. -- you really don't NEED the nursery furniture for the first few months so I think you are ok if you wait until after the shower to order.

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
I ordered mine this week and I am due the first week of December.
I am however not concerned if it's here when the baby is born since I am not setting up the nursery till post birth (jewish) I ordered it knowing it should be here right about the time I am due if not a few weeks prior. If you want the nursery set up prior to birth I would order soon.

Re: Is it too early to order nursery furniture?
My parents offered to buy the furniture with my first. So once we knew all was healthy with the baby we ordered it. I think I was about 19 weeks.
