is it rude
My realtior (that we used to buy our house) is charging us 5% to sell our home... Is it rude of me to ask if she can do it for 4%. We were quoted 4 from 2 other companies but feel most confident in her since we have used her before and know how well she works but its killing me that I can get someone else at a lower %.... rude or not rude to ask?

I don't think it is rude to ask. Her company might insist she do it for 5 though. Never hurts to ask!

It's not rude at all! Commissions are usually negotiable, in the sense that they aren't set by law. I have commission "floor" -- as per my broker -- that I cannot go below, but what I charge for my services really depends on the circumstances and the property.
You have the right to try to negotiate the commission, but the real estate agent also has the right to set her fee.
But I think that the agent who will take a listing for the cheapest fee is not always the best agent for the job. If you like and trust the agent, and think she will do a good job, then why would it kill you to pay 1% more? Liking someone and knowing that they will do a good job has a lot of value. The other agent may not do the same good job, and may cost you more in the long run. A good agent will make the process as quick and easy as possible for you, and will be able to get you top dollar by marketing the home broadly (and well), and negotiating well. Obviously, what you care about is what you are netting in your pocket and not what % you are paying in commission.
In my opinion, if another agent is offering a low commission rate to start, they very often either don't think the value of their services are worth that much OR they are too lazy or lack the confidence or skill to negotiate. And then how will that person successfully negotiate for you when it's your money at stake? I am not saying that it is always the case, but it's just something to think about...
But if it were me, I would go with the agent I know and like and not let commission be the deciding factor. But there is no harm in seeing if the agent you prefer will be a bit flexible with her commission. Never hurts to ask!

Thanks so much u made alot of valuable points, stuff I really didnt even consider. I am going to go with her regardless of the % but I just feel like since we have worked together already that maybe she would go alittle lower ya know, we are taking a decent loss on our home already sp the 1% dosnt seem like that much but a thousand or two in savings would be nice at te samw time :( I will talk to her at our next meeting nd see what she says
