is it ever ok to turn carseat forward before 1 year???
i have a graco myride and i was told the harness is hard to get tight when rear facing....omg its impossible!!!
my daughter is 8 months old and off the charts in height and weight...bigger than some 1+ year olds already.
my mom said to just turn it forward bc the instructions say they can be forward at 20 pounds. my ped. says leave it rear facing.
i would rather her forward facing and more secure. is it ok to turn her forward???

For me personally, no, never.
It may be hard to tighten etc but if you can do it, no matter how annoying etc, then do it. Keep her rear facing as long as possible, period. Again that's just MY opinion. New recommendations are to keep them rear facing at least until 2. So prehaps its a pain with this carseat, maybe get another? A convertible that will last you longer?
That's my opinion. Never ever under any circumstances is it ok to turn them before 1 as their muscles and bone structure can not handle an impact when facing forward (different angle) but you're her mother.

No, DD#1 was 27lbs by a year and off the charts for height as well. The ped. said it is about neck strength not size. MY DD was squished and unhappy, but I left her.

Personally, I believe it is never OK to turn forward facing before 1 year.
You are taking your child's safety into your hands at that point. The baby's head and neck and spine are not fully developed. The chances of a broken neck, internal decapitation, or worse are greatly increased. Not a risk I am willing to take.
The new recommendations are 2 years now before you turn them forward facing. The old recommendation was 1 year AND 20 pounds, not one or the other.
ETA: Just because a baby is big or "off the charts" size wise, does not mean their neck and spine are more developed than another child that same age. The only thing that will catch them up for that is time.

No never. I also have the My Ride. DD is almost 14 months and probably 23-24 lbs and we have no issues with it rear facing!!

When you tighten the harness, try pulling it tight from the back first then pulling the strap.
The harness thing gets easier as they get older too. DD1 is now 3 and 95% of the time I don't loosen or tighten or harness when I get her in and out as she is capable of helping get the harness on herself. That's not to say I don't make sure it's tight everytime though.
ETA: DD1 is 3 not DD2

I'll say that for me, no way. My DS is huge - at 17 months he is 33 inches and over 30 lbs and he is still rear-facing. It's in a struggle to get him in the seat (a 2-door sports coupe ) but I do it. Really think about it, the dangers of your little girl being forward-facing are many, you just never know. And 8-months is really young.

FWIW, the recommendation was 20 lbs AND 1 year, not either. The new recommendation is 2 years or until you reach the maximum weight for your carseat rear facing.
