Is he going to sleep too early?

DS used to sleep great from 7 or so till about 7 AM....

for the past 2-3 weeks he's been waking up anywhere between 5:30 and 6:30 and just hanging/dozing in his crib......he never comes out of his crib before 7, and doesn't cry, but he IS awake....

Sometimes he goes to bed at 8 or 8:30 and I think he may sleep later and lo and behold, he's up at 6!!!!

Does going to bed later necessarily mean they'll sleep later?
Could this be a phase?

He was up at 4:30 the other morning!!!!!!Chat Icon

Re: Is he going to sleep too early?

There is no connection between staying up later and then sleeping in later...in fact, I notice the LATER I put DS to bed the earlier he gets up

Not sure if this is true for everyone but most kids are naturally EARLY risers....DS is my 6 am alarm clock...if I get to sleep until 7 am then it is a dream

Re: Is he going to sleep too early?

no matter what time Bella goes to sleep, she is always up at like 6:15-ish. AND she is more tired if she goes to sleep later.

Ditto. I tried putting DS to bed later and he still wakes up 6-6:30am...can't win with him. BUT, he does sleep through the night so thats a good thing. I guess when they get a little older, they sleep a little longer since their naps get shorter.

Re: Is he going to sleep too early?

Nope - actually the later they sleep the more it effects their sleep.

Sleep begets sleep. When they go to bed earlier (for the most part obviously not all children) they will sleep better and longer.

I have read about 20 sleeping books to figure this much out! Chat Icon

same here. ds sleeps from 6:15ish to 5:30ish. i can get him to stay up a little later, but it has no effect on the time he wakes up. if he would just wake up one hour later life would be a lot easier...Chat Icon

Re: Is he going to sleep too early?

Its the same for Jacob. He normally goes to bed around 7:30 and wakes up around 6:30. he wakes up at 6:30 even if he goes to bed later.

I think that Jack could honestly go to bed by 6. He is a nightmare after 5. Do you think I should try putting him earlier and he will sleep later? He usually wakes at 5:45 now.

Also - do you have an issue with her sleeping when you go out? What do you do?

Definitely try putting Jack to bed earlier. I would put DD down later and she would still wake in the morning at the same time.

DD will manage to stay up later if we are out and about...but not much past 7:30 or so. We get a babysitter if we're going out to dinner or out in the city, etc.

This is true for DS as well. On nights we keep him out later, he seems to wake up earlier. He will then nap earlier too so he makes up for the lost sleep but that doesn't help with my lost sleep Chat Icon

I am going to try tonight. I'll give him a bath by 5:30 and then put him down after that. I'll let you know how it goes!

ITA My son is the same way. If for some reason he stays up past his bed time often he will get up a half hour earlier.

Yes. usually a morning nap for an hour or so. If she does take another nap her bedtime will be pushed back, but not usually any later than 6:30.
