Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

DS's 1st birthday is April 3rd and we wanted to do an outdoor party. Are we taking a risk doing that? I remember when I gave birth to DS it was like 73 degrees out and I was jealous I was in the hospital!

What do you think?

Jojo, DH & I Have been discussing the same thing since DD's bday is April 2nd. We had AMAZING weather last year that weekend/week..but I really think it's a big risk to take. It's soo early in April- that really, it could still be cold..I think we're going to skip it.

Do you have room to do indoor/outdoor incase it is too cold? Also- lots of rain in April!

My DS is April and it really can go either way. His 1st birthday, it teemed rain all day. His 2nd, in the high 50s low 60s and sunny.

DS's b-day is April 13th and he will be 5 this coming April. So far all the parties have been indoor/outdoor. Last year was the only one that it crappy for.

You really have a 50% chance. I would set it up inside and if it is nice out set up some tables and chairs to people to sit out.

we were torn with this too- last april was GORGEOUS when DS was born, but ultimately we decided not to chance it. april is so hard for outdoor parties, you just never know with the weather.

could you plan to have it outside and have it indoors if it's too cool?

it's risky at that time of year - the weather could totally go either way

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

I also think it is risky, it could be snowing or it could be gorgeous.

If you planned an outdoor party, I'd want to have a backup indoor location just in case.

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

I would not do it. Too many risks. Cold and/or rainy or nice but so uncertain.

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

early april is too risky, imo. we take dd out, but only for a little while, not the duration of a party. plus, it can be crazy cold or raining.

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

DD is April too and I think the biggest risk is rain, not cold weather.

We are having a small party at my house I will have the outside set up if the weather is good and people want to be outside, but I will also be prepared for everyone to be inside as well.

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

I do have room inside, but def not enough for 40-50 people. I am gonna have to talk to DH. I think convincing him to do it inside at a hall or something is going to be hard! He isn't going to want to spend too much money!

UGH! you KNOW if i do it inside its going to be a GORGEOUS day and if I do it outside their will be a blizzard!

DD is born in April.
First birthday BBQ planned- terrential rain.
Second birthday- indoors- terrential rain.
Third birthday- Outdoor party- terrential rain.
Fourth birthday- Indoor party planned- gorgeous day.

I debate it every year. Its a gamble....

DH and I were just trying to figure out the same thing... I'm thinking an American legion hall or firehouse... too many people to chance the weather..

My birthday is April 3rd too Chat Icon but I never ever had an outdoor party. I was always jealous of kids who got to have pool parties!

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

DD#2's birthday is April 18th. We have tried the past 2 years to have it outside. In the end it was a NO GOChat Icon It was cold and rainy one year and just too cold one year(it was actually in the 40's last year, it was crazy). The kids did go out in the yard and play last year but the parents were miserable having to be out there watching them. I think I will just plan it inside from now on and if I get lucky, move it outside at the last minute.

Re: Is April too early to have an outdoor party?

This is why we had DDs first birthday out.. I am thinking of having a small 2nd birthday... at my parents house because they have more room... and we can do outside or inside...
