My DH is and I think it's somewhat crazy that he is expected to be there for a 9am meeting. It's just not safe.

It's not the morning commute I'm worried about it's the evening. If we get significant snowfall LIRR will suspend service and I won't get home.

if i was on the schedule for tomorrow, i would. I work in a hospital and staffing issues are dangerous enough as it is.

My DH was going to take metro-north but they already reduced service so he's going to drive. (we are in putnam, his drive in good weather is an hour)

Right now I am planning to work from home. The AM will be one thing, but coming home (even if we get out early) will be a nightmare! Last time I think was 6 hours...

Re: Is anyone planning on going to work tomorrow if you commute?

We had auditors walk in today, and to be honest, I don't care that much about it to go in tommorrow even though I KNOW my boss is going to try to insist we be there if they are. Safety is more important.

I already go above and beyond at work, my charts are all in order and my clients can reach me via cell phone if need be. If I need to, I will take a personal day. There's really no reason beyond "appearances" for the auditors that I need to be there.

Well, DD's daycare is closed. IF the white stuff is coming down in any form when our executive director wakes up my office will be closed. IF however the snow hasn't started, and he doesn't close the office, I will be expected to go to work.

My DH works in NYC (commutes from Suffolk)... sales for a start up... he was laid off last year and out of work for 4 months. H e l l yeah, he'll be working tomorrow, just not commuting in.

He has the ability to work from anywhere.
You bet, given the above info, he will be at the desk in our home office at 8am sharp making calls and sending out proposals. No calls/work=no pay.
He'll be concentrating on his West coast leads.
Can't afford not to in this economy.

Exactly. I know getting IN to work won't be such a hassle, but I don't feel like battling the drive in to work in a practically empty office for a couple of hours and be let go early, only to battle a ridiculous commute home. So working from home it is.

Re: Is anyone planning on going to work tomorrow if you commute?

i have too, but getting home is going to be a biotch. Im more concerned with having to pick up DS from daycare and drive him around in this during the evening commute.

I called in. I have an hour commute. I'm also 37+ weeks pregnant and DH wont be home later to help me get back IN. I cant shovel and there is no way I can park on the side of the street (I live in Rocky Point and they hardly plow and its too narrow anyway)

I feel bad since theres nothing out there right now but i wont take the chance of being stranded later with both kids and this big belly! Chat Icon

DH had to, a few companies he covers are releasing earnings this morning and he needs to be there to advise the traders about their positions.

He packed a bag and if the LIRR isn't running this afternoon he's going to stay with my uncle in Brooklyn.

Re: Is anyone planning on going to work tomorrow if you commute?

I e-mailed my boss and told him I'd be working from home today, it's the getting home part that has me really concerned.
I took some of my files home last night as a precaution.
Poor DH had to go into work today (MTA Bus). He was basically threatened with disciplinary action if he called in sick today. I'm really worried about him having to drive the freakin bus in this weather.

Re: Is anyone planning on going to work tomorrow if you commute?

I called in today. I drive over 70 miles round trip and it's just not worth it. My office is open but I wont be there. Dh is going in however but will hopefully leave early.

My DH's company is one of the companies releasing earnings this morning!

I work from home, but since daycare is closed and he has to go in I lose an entire days pay.

What stinks is they don't understand why I have to take a "snow day" when I work from home (they don't have kids, don't like kids, don't want to hear the word kids...) I hate being put into a position like this. I don't expect to be be paid for not working, but I hate feeling like I'm a slacker or unreliable because I can't work because daycare is closed. I can't work with a 2 and 3 year old home!Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone planning on going to work tomorrow if you commute?

Well, my boss sent me a text with an assignment to do "from home" this morning because he already assumed I wouldn't be getting into the office. Chat Icon

15 minutes later he sent out another email to everyone saying the auditors aren't coming today!!!Chat Icon

I also did the assignment he asked me to do a long time ago, so I can basically lounge out today!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

my company is awesome in that regard. They don't care how the work gets done or where it gets done. You don't even have to ask, Just out out an email with your whereabouts and where you can be reached

DH & I are both working from home. We have a 2yo so we're just taking turns tending to him while the other gets stuff done.

Con Ed policy: All are expected to report to work or lose the day's pay.
Outages are common in inclement weather. But, we're indoors for the day studying safety material.
