Is anyone going to make meals and freeze them before giving birth?

If so, what are you going to make
I want to cook and just fill the freezer so I dont have to worry in the beginning.
I was thinking of making sauce and meatballs, homemade mac N cheese. Not sure what else though...

Re: Is anyone going to make meals and freeze them before giving birth?

I did! And what a help it's been! Also, when people were coming to visit, if they asked if we needed anything I'd say "dinner". Don't be ashamed to take people up on their offers!

I made sausage and peppers, baked ziti, lasagna, eggplant parm, and my sister made me a mac n cheese casserole type thing.

I also wanted to make some chicken parm but ran out of time.

I froze them in aluminum loaf pans versus the big aluminum trays. Since it's only DH and I the big trays would be too much for one meal. This way whatever I prepared that day we had half for dinner that night and the other half I froze. It also took up much less space in the freezer.

I might make a few things like a baked ziti, and freeze some sauce.

My parents will be here, so I'm pretty sure, my mom will cook for us.

I did, and it was great. We had a lot of company and I didn't feel the need to host (not that I would anyway), I would just tell DH or my mom or MIL to pull out a tray from the freezer and heat for 30 minutes. Easy breezy.

Re: Is anyone going to make meals and freeze them before giving birth?

I did when I had DS and will do it again this year. Even though I had my mom over to help I found it easier to have the foods prepared so this way she could really help with the baby and not spend the day in the kitchen.

I made sauce, meatballs, stuffed shells with cheese & spinach, mac & cheese, sausage & peppers. I put everything into small containers and just took out the amount I needed. So if it were just DH and I one container was fine.

I'll probably make a couple of trays of something. My dad loves to cook so I'm sure he'll be bringing us lots of food.

Make some for me, too, especially the ziti and meatballs! Chat Icon

I will probably make sausage and peppers and some pasta dishes and freeze them. I'll also make chili- it freezes really well.

Re: Is anyone going to make meals and freeze them before giving birth?

I may make baked ziti, lasagna, stuffed shells & baked mac n cheese. Other than that, my DH is a great cook (he cooks most of the time anyway) & my mom lives about 10 minutes from us.

I never even thought of doing this.

Maybe, i'll cook a meal or two. But, with my family and in laws...I never have to worry about food.

Its a great idea, you won't have visitors everyday and you won't have the energy to do it once the baby arrives.

I wish I knew how to cook Chat Icon

Is it bad that Ed doesn't like eggplant and I am having you make it just for me so I don't have to share it?

i did and it has been so helpful! some advice, try not to overdo it with tomato sauce meals! we've had ziti, lasagna, mac and cheese, chili, soup, tofu-spinach patties, zucchini casserole, quiche, etc.
