Is anyone else...
Petrified of labor? Don't get me wrong, I am excited to see my soon, I am just such a baby when it comes to pain. I pray that I will have an almost pain free delivery, but I am still scared. When I try to tell friends, family or my DH they all tell me, "you won't remember the pain", "it's not that bad", "you're a tough cookie and you will do great", etc, etc., etc. How do you NOT remember that kind of pain?????? I guess I just don't get it. Sometimes, I feel like I cannot express how fearful I am (to friends or family) of the pain because everyone thinks I am nuts or not excited to have my baby. Nothing can be further from the truth. I guess I don't know if I can do this (L & D) and I am scared. Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I crazy????

I don't know if I am scared or just in disbelief that something like that is going to happen to me....it seems crazy.

Re: Is anyone else...
I remember wanting him out so bad till I went into labor. Then complete panic mode
It is totally normal.
You will remember the pain but you will be so happy you won't care.

Re: Is anyone else...
I've come to learn that the PAIN of labor is something that is completely inevitable & unpredictable. I feel that by thinking that way, I've won half the battle. I mean, we already know that with pregnancy comes labor, as well as pain... but I think it's best to not get anxious about the pain just yet, because we don't know what's actually coming. In a weird way it's like pulling a band-aid, or getting a shot... if you actually think too much about it, you'll end up not wanting to do it. However, once you go through it, it's passed, and don't have the pain anymore, just the memory of it. The only thing is that with pg, there's no turning back now...

Re: Is anyone else...
I spoke to my mom last night and she said that once she went into labor, all 4 of us (me and my 3 siblings) came pretty quick. The only toughie was my brother because he was 8+ lbs and had a big noggin So I'm hoping that my labor is fast and not too bad, just like my mom's!

Re: Is anyone else...
i am soo scared. and when i talk to dh he says 'youre stronger than you think'. but i dont know! i try to imagine myself there, at that moment, and it just scares me even more. plus, the pains i've been getting in the last week (some BH, some strong kicks, some muscle pulls, etc) really take my breath away so i can just imagine how much worse labor will be. i'm just hoping to get an epi as soon as i get to the hospital to take the edge off ... i ain't gonna be a hero!

I am not so much afraid of labor pains, I know it will hurt like h*ll, but I am deathly afraid of the unknown it could bring.

Re: Is anyone else...
I alternate between fear and denial. My mom keeps assuring me everything will be fine, but she has an unbelievable tolerance for pain that unfortunately I did not inherit.

Re: Is anyone else...
I was VERY afraid of many aspects of labor but then with my hypnobirthing birth class I actually wanted to experience it all. I no longer had fear at all of labor and delivery. Fear can actually cause labor to be more painful- it is your body's responses that fear that cause it to react in ways that make labor more painful. Check out another form of birthing class. You may really love the difference

DH always tells me to give the breathing techniques a chance before I start begging for the medications. I was like "if the pain is unbearable I will take the needle threw my eyeballs if it will make the pain stop"...

yea, anywhere to make it stop! DH is a former USMC Marine so his favorite saying is 'pain is fear leaving the body' ... i'm like 'no, its more like an 8lb person leaving the body!'

What do they know anyway? They are not the ones carrying an 8lb baby inside...
I want to see them push an 8lb baby threw their private parts and then see what they say then...

yes! like that commercial for DQ's (I think) smoothies or something where the couple is imagining the baby being born and she's imagining HIM delivering and he's like "You did this to me!" i laugh out loud everytime and DH just gives a look

Re: Is anyone else...
I too am scared to death of the L&D process. I keep going back and forth between wanting a regular delivery and wanting a c-section. I know that the c-section is major surgery and has a much longer recovery process, but I am just so afraid of having to push the baby out!!
I used to think that I would be able to endure the labor pains and avoid the epi but with the horrible back pain I've been having the past few days, I don't think I'll be going that route!
I guess it will all be over soon, and like Lissette said, there's no turning back now.
