Is anyone concerned
Is anyone concerned about the long term effects of fertility treatments on your health? From what I've read online and in the paperwork the RE gave me about IVF, there's several studies that show a link between IVF drugs and increased risk of ovarian cancer. I'm supposed to be starting IVF in April b/c of male factor, but am debating on getting a second opinion and see if we can increase DH's counts on our own.

Did it say how long before you are at risk? I did it for 3 1/2 years..

Re: Is anyone concerned
Of course I am, but I wanted a child and felt that I had to do what I had to do to get pg.
Who knows what the future may bring..

Re: Is anyone concerned
If IF treatments don't kill you something else will.
There isn't enough data out there to make any determination.
I have a higher risk of breast cancer and having my estrogen pumped up to huge levels could put me at higher risk. I've been assessed for my risk and not one doctor can confirm there is a real higher risk for me There is one study done in Australia and that one was inconclusive.
Frankly, we take risk in all areas of our lives...the air we breathe, the food we eat and our stress levels.
I'm not worried at all.

Re: Is anyone concerned
I am not concerned because I feel the benefits outweigh the risks for me. I am glad though that this information is out there so that people can be savvy consumers and make good informed decisions for themselves!! I like having ALL the information before I get into something, especially related to my current and future health.

Re: Is anyone concerned
I think I'm having a little case of cold feet. I want a baby SOOOO badly, so it makes me want to IVF right away but I don't want to subject myself to all of the treatments if I don't have to. I think I'm going to put IVF on hold until we get a second opinion and another SA done. In the meantime DH is doing acupuncture 2x a week, taking Chinese herbs to get his testosterone to good levels (which has worked wonders so far) and his vitamins for IF should be here today. If his counts aren't up significantly in 3 months, then I think we'll definitely move on to IVF. Thanks for your input!

I am not concerned with the effect on me, however I am very concerned with the effect on the child! It really really worries me!

It is smart to move at your own pace and give yourself as little or as much medical intervention you are comfortable with. You have to be confident in your decisions and feel like the time to move to the next step is right. Hang in there!!
