is a mamogram standard before ivf?

Are there any other tests required beforehand? Im thinking theres one that starts with a h?

Before I began, I had to go for a mammo and then a follow up breast ultrasound. I also had an endometrial biopsy, an HSG to check for blocked tubes, a D&C to check for hyperplasia.

You will need a water sonogram, sperm analysis, pap smear/breast exam (depending on your age) and my Dr required a consent signing and counseling beforehand.

I had a hysteroscopy, which did not hurt at all. My DH had a SA and I had bloodwork done to check my levels and see if I was a carrier for any diseases. I had just had a pap smear at my regular gyno so it was not necessary for my RE to do another one.

I did a saline/water sono and not a hystercopy. Because of the good results from the water sono, I don't need the hystercopy.

I did not have a mammogram before I did IVF. Is it if you're over a certain age, maybe? (since mammograms are typically done for women over - what? 35? 40?)

Before IVF you'll need a saline sonogram which checks your uterus. You should not need a HSG because that looks at your tubes. IVF bypasses your tubes.

You'll also need blood work, a pap, STD tests, an HIV test and a transvag u/s.

A mammogram isn't part of the usual panel of tests unless you're over 35 or high-risk, I believe.

I do think it depends on the RE . I had to have bw,HSG, sono and mammo.
After a few rounds then I had the water sono nothing was really that bad.

a hysteroscopy looks at the uterus not the tubes, thats an HSG.

hysteroscopies are quick and just like period cramps if done in REs office with a tiny camera. if you have to have one done in the hospital (if your RE doesnt do it in house) i believe they use a larger camera and put you out for it (which i think is crazy since the whole test takes like one minute).

i also did not need a pap, mammogram or any other tests besides regular bloodwork so again it depends on your RE.

I was told for the ones where they put you to sleep, they could actually see more because they could look more carefully. From how it was explained to me, if they put you to sleep for it, it's not the same 1-2 mins procedure as when you're awake. It's still not a big deal .. but that's why some RE's put you out for it .. it's not totally crazy.
