iron supplements
What do i need to know about taking iron supplements?
the nurse at my drs office said that the dr still needs to sign off on the results but i might need to take something.
I have heard that they are disgusting - true?

I was recently put on an iron supplement and it has been tough on my GI tract. The pill itself is not disgusting it is a small tablet that is easily swallowed.

That's what i am afraid of...I didn't have an issue with DD so I didn't even have this test on my radar and now i am bummed. although I still need to wait for my dr to sign off on things so there is a chance its still oko

Try not to let it get you down- I talked to my doctor about my GI issues and she said that I could take a break for a few days-- I have found taking the iron in the in the afternoon. I think if I could take it with crackers or toast it might help but I am gluten intolerant so the starchy effects of gluten free bread are not the same as wheat based bread. Hopefully, you will not need a supplement.

Re: iron supplements
I started taking iron supplements on Monday since I am slightly anemic. The taste has not bothered me and my GI tract seems to be fine. I was surprised I had low iron since I eat red meat and leafy greens a lot, but I guess this little guy needs a lot of iron...

Thanks I was surprised too. I didn't have this issue the first time around and now i am wondering if it has anything to do with not taking a prescription prenatal vitamin. But I haven't spoken with my dr yet so i'll know more next week.

Check your prenatals. My blood work came back with low iron as well. I was taking gummy prenatals (switched in the first trimester because it was all I could keep down and never switched back) and when my results came back, I checked the package. It had barely any iron in it, compared to the regular pills. I switched back to my old prenatals and plan to speak with my doctor at my next visit about it.

I plan on checking tonight. I was always making sure the folic acid was enough but now obviously concerned about the iron.

I just checked my prenatal and it has 100% of the daily recommended amount of iron - so who knows.

Re: iron supplements
i took it all through this preg and all through last preg. i never had any problems with taking it. my prenatal vitamin had no where near the amount of iron i needed.
this preg i took every other day. i def can feel a difference if i dont take it. its something that will help you.

iron supplements
My prenatals do not have iron but I choose them specifically because of that reason- I have never done well with iron supplements. I am going to have to manage for the next few weeks. I was surprised to find out I was iron deficient as well because I was intentionally trying to increase me intake.
