intralipids/ ivig info please
Can anyone give me scientific data/ studies from legitimate journals?? Why don't the RE's at the top clinics believe in this stuff if it works? Any success stories of people who were hesitant to use this stuff and then it worked? Thanks girls! Started my 6th ivf cycle (after removal of my tubes, 3 m/c from ivf and 2 bfn's) Just found out my only friend who was not prego is. I am so depressed and mad at myself at the same time. She's been really good to me why can't i b happy? thanks for listening:) xoxo

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
i did intralipids, it worked to lower nk activity. i know it worked cause i had bloodwork before and after treatment. its not a big deal, doesnt hurt or have side effects, just sort of boring while its being administered. good luck.

I think that most of the "big" RE's don't believe in the immune side of it all. Try looking on Dr. B's webite he always has helpful info on there. www.reproductiveimmunology.com
Good Luck!

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
I wonder why its so controversial. I haven't googled anything on intralipids because i trust the doc and not sure if I would find anything for lay people, but I imagine there's not much info out there. Sorry, I didn't answer your question!

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
Thanks everyone:) Not a phan of Dr. B's so I am going to skip the website. Looking for data supporting ivig/ intralipids work for pregnancy not nk cells. There is no research supporting nk cells have a negative effect on implantation according to some of the top RE's i've seen. Thanks so much!

Just curious, what other.reason would one use intralipids for pregnancy if not to lower nk levels? Or is it for cytokines?

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
Dr b is pretty much the only RI around. I think here is one in westchester and one in NYC. All REs don't believe in it because they aren't RIs. Intralipids is used to supress the immune system due to high nk cells or diseases like chrohns etc. Thats how it helps sustain pregnancy. The body is fighting something like endometriosis or whatever but cant fight it so it keeps sending more nk cells which in turn attack the sperm, egg and embryo. It's questionable because normal people have up to 29% nk cells but for fertility, they treat people with anything over 15%. I know people who got pregnant right after starting the immune treatment, but it's not always the answer for everyone.

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
I AM 100% POSITIVE HE IS NOT AN RE. EMAIL HIM AND ASK HIM. At our consult he admitted that to me! He said he was "grandfathered in" but not certified. soo strange. I know alot of people love him and had success w him but he really rubbed me the wrong way. So tired of researching:/ been researchin for 2 years now. Everyone seems to think it's my eggs. Tired of toying w/ the idea that maybe if i try these "reproductive immunologists " they will be the magic answer. Tired of second guessing the 10 RE's I've seen who don't believe in that stuff. I just wish this was more one way and nobody had other opinions or other so called therapies that cost an arm and a leg. sorry for my rant:( good luck

Dr. B is not a Reproductive Endocrinologist. He's a Reproductive Immunologist. Regardless of his title, he has VERY high success rates with his treatments.

SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE POOR QUALITY EGGS? Do you have any other underlining conition with the infertility?
I have been going thru this for about 5- 6 years ,i started at 34-35 and i just turned 40.. i had nothing wrong with me,all testes came back fine, same for SO.
i di 3 iui- nothing 1st ivf, nothing- fet became pregant with twins, lost them both at 10,13 weeks. did another fet transfered 4 one took, 20 weeks miscarraige-- all were down syndrome.. all the genetic councelors and my Re said the chances of me having down syndrome again after my first was soooo unlikely, but it happened.
my suggestion to you is maybe you do have bad eggs, like i do
i cycled and batched my eggs and then i sent them out to get tested PGD, I sent over 28 eggs and only 3 came back normal. that is crazy these eggs were all different ages too, when i was 36,37 all the way up till now 40
we realized based on the PGD that bad eggs were my problem, i was told it was unlikely to be the cause but in theory it was very possible..
we transfered all 3 and I AM THRILLED TO SAY I AM 14 WEEKS PREGNANT WITH A SILGLETON..It took years and persistance, heartbreak, and tons of money but we all thrilled about this outcome
sorry toramble on-- good luck to you.

Yup. And, not to get off topic here, but I don't care if Dr.B delivers the mail or calls himself a sous chef Call him what you want, the fact is many people would not have had success if it were not for him and I have faith in him
Now back to the topic at hand............

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
It was suggested to me to do the Intralipids. However, I consulted with several RE's, Hematologist and Immuologist at Cornell. They all did not believe in NK cells. They say most people will have elevated NK cells for many reasons, ( cold, stress, etc).
I do know most RE's do not believe in the treatment..unless you have an auto immune disease. ( graves, lupus etc) I do think Dr B though is an expert with those who do have an auto immune issues, he has a lot of expert knowledge in that area and is an great Dr.
For me I chose to not go that route ( bc I was to afraid of the treatment). So I just took Lovenox ( for clotting factors)....lovenox also helps to supress NK cells, BA, and 4000mg of Omega 3 ( another natural supressor of nk cells).
I just had my DD 7 months ago with the above protocol.
Hope that helps!!

I was just going to say, I dont care if Dr. B was a dentist or a podiatrist He discovered issues with me that other doctors could not for the past 4 years. He will treat those which hopefully will result in a bfp.

Wow, congrats to you...we've been at this the same amount of time. I'm having trouble with being persistent these days.
AB24eva - we'll I know at least 4 people who tried everything and then went to Dr. B and did intralipds and had success. I guess none of them read the boards still, hopefully someone will chime in.
I was interested after my friends found success. Consulted with Dr. B and he only thought it was old eggs (age factor) and didn't pursue testing me, so I went back to my clinic. Flash forward 2 years later, I do a shared DE cycle, other recipient gets lucky and we don't. So, I go back to Dr. B. And I have my RE do hysteroscopy. Both find something. Both are convinced it was what they found and not what the other found. My RE finds adhesion on uterus and Dr. B finds elevated NK cells. I fix uterus issue and do intralipids (now have two docs treating me). I didn't have any success with our 2 frosties(truthfully, still not the bet quality either). Go on to DE cycle #2, I get a nice young donor....our embryo's are crap on day 3. We do a 3dt with a 9 and 8 celled emby (all the rest (8) were not even 5 cells/fragmented, I did better on my last OE cycle). Of course we don't get any frozen emby's, all stopped growing on day 3. It ends in chemical (and oddly the first time with any ART treatment that I even get a positive, was pg once on my own which ended with early m/c). So, was that crap eggs and bad luck, or what? NK cells tested after transfer, levels normal. Intralipids didn't hurt anything and for us, it was 100% covered by insurance (which oddly doesn't cover any advanced treatments). And just for fun I talked with clinic after, DH's sample was fine(as they all samples) and we did another HSG to check my uterus and it was fine too. I felt I had to try the intralipids and I do think if we got good quality emby's we would have gotten lucky. And no, my clinic is not admitting that they might not have stimmed the donor right but my RE hinted the best he could. I wish they would give us a free round but they wont. And DH is sick of throwing money away.
I always find that Dr. B, though overworked and over extending himself, really tried (more than any other) to find out what could be wrong.
Why not do some research on the
Dr. Alan Beers
Dr. B didn't invent this, he may be taking it to another level though. Why not get tested and see if anything shows up. Why not try everything!!!

I had 2 missed miscarriages before I saw Dr. B. All my tests came back normal but Dr B discovered I had high NK cells. I did prednisone and intralipids with him and now I have a 7 month old.
I honesty dont know if it was the intralipids that made the pregnancy last or if it was just luck. My advice would be to try it since you have nothing to lose. The intralipids are a very easy treatment; they arent even drugs. They have no side effects at all and there was a significant decrease in my NK activity after every treatment.

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
i have to chime in on this one first, I did both intralipids and IVIG. Intralipids did nothing for me, so dr B advised to try IVIG. we did it 2 times ( once at 6 w prego, another time at 12 w). IVIG helped to lower my horrendously high NK cells. I am 21w prego now. Second, I believe dr B and whole immune protocol. I have no doubt in my mind. Try reading up on Dr Beer's research, it all makes sense. Lastly, I think that Cornell and other clinics that do not support immune theories are just being ignorant about something they do not truly understand or care to investigate. By the way, if i am not mistaken, dr Davis at Cornel ( the brightest there) would allow immune protocol. Good luck!

Insurances that require treatment with an RE just means you must have an RE do the retrieval and transfer. He does the monitoring, BW and sonos.

No I had to register with a dr on my ins plan who was a RE in order to have monitoring and iui and labs covered. He was on there and covered.

Re: intralipids/ ivig info please
I did intralipids and IVIG, I totally believe that it helped with my implantation issues. Some people believe in it others don't, however the many women who got pregnant from Dr. B following his treatment are now blessed with a baby. I think whether you believe in him or not, like him or not, he does different things that other doctors don't do. He knows his stuff. I would suggest it to your current doctor to see if it is a possibility. I did it with all my IVF's with Dr. B.
