Insurance Coverage Question?
2 weeks ago I posted about my position being switched to part-time, there no benefits. Well on Tuesday I spoke to my boss and he decided to swtich me back to full time, I guess the idea of me looking for another job scared him. I just received notice that I will still have to go on Cobra (the copmany will reimburse me for the portion they usually pay) and then in 90 days I have to reapply for benefits. They are considering me a new hire. Here comes the question:
My insurance covers 2 IVF cycles, per lifetime. So techinically I will be under a new policy, does that mean I will get another 2 IVF cycles covered? Or does lifetime mean MY lifetime? So confused.
TIA

Re: Insurance Coverage Question?
I would say since they are treating you as a new hire that the insurance will be a brand new policy. And your benefits will start new... the lifetime means for your time spend on that plan...

Re: Insurance Coverage Question?
I think your right- lifetime means your lifetime. Even if you have a new policy, if it's the same incurance company they will still have record of our last cycle. You actually will probably get the same ID number once it's reinstated because they will match up your SS# to the same ID.
I went back and forth between DH's and my insurance and when I swtiched back I would get a card with the same policy ID as the last time I had it. And the IVF's cycles I had in the past still counted towards my lifetime max.

Good point. Thankfully we are preparing to pay OOP for the next transfer, hopefully that one will take.

Re: Insurance Coverage Question?
When they say 'lifetime' I think its your lifetime. I made a switch from UHC to Aetna for 4 months early in 2011 and hated it. I switched back to UHC and I have the same member I'd and once I sign into their website my medical records(claims and procedures) comes up going back to 2005. When they say 2 IVF cycles they are referring to 2 fresh cycles.

This wasn't the case with my insurance- they counted FETs towards my lifetime max of 3 IVFs. I have UHC, but every insurance plan can be different so you'll have to call and check.

Re: Insurance Coverage Question?
It actually wasn't the case for me. I had GHI. I was getting close to my benefits being up, so I questioned switching to my DH's GHI and starting a new policy.
GHI said no. Same social security number so no.
I hope it works for you!
