Insulin?
My endocrinologist decided to put me on insulin for the remaining 2.5 weeks of my pregnancy He looked over my numbers and food journal and decided it would be best to do the insulin. I'm so upset. I feel like a total failure. I don't know how else to have changed my diet- I've been following what the nutritionist told me, but my numbers have still been fluctuating. Has anyone else been on insulin during their pregnancy?
ETA: I had a sonogram today with my high risk obgyn before my endocrinologist appointment and she said the baby looked great, measuring right in target and not showing any signs of being a "diabetic baby" so she felt I was going to be fine for the remaining 2.5 weeks.

Insulin?
From what I understand, it's not uncommon at all. And it's only for 2 1/2 weeks! Some bodies just handle pregnancy different. It happens. Maybe you'll deliver sooner than 2 1/2 weeks and it will all be over soon!

Re: Insulin?
I am a type 1 diabetic so I have been on insulin for the last 30 years, including my last 3 pregnancies. I am surprised that they put you on insulin when you only have 2 1/2 weeks to go. It might take that long to get your dosages right. Also, your baby is fully developed by this point and any high blood sugars won't really affect the baby.

Re: Insulin?
Thank you! I'm actually having baby 3 weeks early with a scheduled c-section on Nov 22 bc I have placenta previa. I've been keeping my numbers down through diet since diagnosed at 27/28 weeks. But the last week my numbers have been really hard to control no matter what I do, so I was advised insulin. I'm glad to know you had no complications- thanks for sharing that :)

Insulin?
I am on insulin since 16 weeks, on it 4 times a day. There is nothing you can do about it, and the last trimester is the worst. I am 4 weeks away from csection, and they are discussing insulin pump now, u will get through it xoxo

Re: Insulin?
With GD sometimes diet is just not enough. You can eat all the "right" things and still have your numbers be not where they were supposed to be. It was that way with me. I had GD with both of my pregnancies and wound up on insulin both times. You shouldn't feel like a failure at all. Taking insulin is not the end of the world. By taking insulin, you are doing what is best for the health of your baby and yourself. I went on to have two healthy children (one who is now 4 years old and the other who is 8 months old). Remember, its just temporary.
