Installing carseat without base

We leave for Florida on Saturday and I'm debating whther or not to take the base to the infant carrier. I know it is just as safe to not have the base but my concenr/question is this. Am I going to have to take the baby out, install the seat and then put him back in each time we go in the car? Or can it be locked into place while the baby is in the seat?

You can do it with the baby in the seat.

Re: Installing carseat without base

i think ours just has the belt go over the seat in special hook things, so your could do it with dc in it....Chat Icon but I'm not sure...

This is how it works with my Chicco KeyFit30 and with my BFF's Graco Snugride. You just put the baby in the carseat with the straps all clicked etc, then use the car's seat belt over the carseat "hooks". My BFF has done this before with no issues. I haven't tried it yet myself.

Re: Installing carseat without base

I think I may just play it safe and bring the base. It seems like less of a pain to bring the base then to strap him securely in everytime we get in and out of the car. But thanks anyway ladies, I'm sure there will come a time when this info is useful!

Re: Installing carseat without base

You really don't need the base...it's just as easy to strap the seat in, the belt just slides into the two slots on the top of the seat.
I find it more secure than using the base - but that's just my opinion - and we do have the base in our car.
But the sitter uses his seat w/out the base all the time.

it is really quick to just use the seat belt- but matting on the seat i might bring an extra receiving blanket to sit properly

We've been down to Florida twice with DD. First time we brought the base, second time we didn't. Soooo glad we didn't bring it the second time cause it's just more cr@p to bring! We have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and I found it to be quite easy to use without the base. We wont be bringing the base on any other trips with us.

Don't bring the base - you have enough other stuff to bring with two kids.

I was surprsied how easy it was!!!

I agree with the poster about bringing an extra blanket. Depending on the way the seat is, you may need something under the carseat to level it out a bit.

Because clicking them in & out is a lot easier than strapping & unstrapping the car seat.
