Infertility and weight...
OK so Dh and I go to visit my ILs today. They haven't asked much about where we're at TTC since they knew my IUI failed in Dec, and that I completely bummed about it (DH told them- I just couldn't deal w/ it). My MIL dealt w/ IF and never got pregnant- instead she adopted DH and his siblings... so I thought nothing of sharing my infertility issues w/ her when we found out about them, because I knew she'd understand first hand. Anyway, tonight we were there for dinner and she starts asking me about my dr and if he's discussed weight w/ me and infertility b/c they're directly linked... blah blah blah. Now, my weight hasn't changed much over they years, though about 10 years ago when everyone gained their 'freshman 15' I gained my 'freshman 45'--- which we found out later was the PCOS kicking in according to my dr at the time. So, maybe it's the hormones talking, but she really irritated me!!!!! GRRRRR!!!! Maybe I gained some weight w/ the injections in Dec, but I honestly don't think so...what I did gain, I think I lost. I got insulted and told DH - but he defended her and and told me that he's sure she was trying talk about a 'touchy subject as nicely as possible' though I just think it was totally inappropriate for her to discuss w/ me, ESPECIALLY in front of my FIL too. Anyway, to the point of my story, how much of a weight drop (either in lbs or %) helps you w/ infertility... hopefully I phrased that correctly.

Re: Infertility and weight...
I am overweight and I think about this all the time. I have heard that dropping 20-30 pounds can make a difference.

Re: Infertility and weight...
You can notice a change in your cycle (becoming more regular) if you lose just 10% of your weight. Losing weight definately can't hurt, I've been vigliant on weight watchers since January and went to a nutrionist last summer that specialized in PCOS. I want to give myself the best odds possible, and have as healthy a pregnancy as possible. I still need to lose 40lbs, and know that won't happen before I get pregnant ( this IVF cycle works). But I know that the 25lbs I've already lost has helped. Being overweight I know I'm at a much larger risk of having gestational diabeites, and that is what really scares me.

Re: Infertility and weight...
Losing weight can help. I lost about 40 pounds before we even started cycling. My doctor didnt order me to loose weight but she did say that it would help. I used that as motivation.

Re: Infertility and weight...
I heard 10% as well can help regulate ovulation. That said, last year I lost 35 pounds (over 20% of my body weight) and it didn't help at all, unfortunately. I still don't ovulate. I guess if doesn't work for everyone.
