Infertility & Your Weight
Has anyone been told that your weight is one of the reasons that you cannot conceive?
I'm overweight and no matter what I do, I don't lose weight, unless i'm put on medication (i have IBS-D, so I don't eat all that regularly, because eating = going to the bathroom). I'm so concerned that when we see the doc next month, he'll tell me that and it'll KILL ME.

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
My RE said it can't hurt to lose weight but I have PCOS so that is very hard and I eat hardly anything but he said he was not going to make me lose weight just to conceive. He said after he got me pg and had the baby he would work w/ me and my PCOS to lose the weight.

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
okay - i just read something about it on webmd (yes - i'm insane quick, both in reading and research when i'm worried about something).
i have been ovulating with consistency since coming off of the birth control pill (5 months now). I have been charting and temping - so i know for sure - the last 2 months i have definitely ovulated.
i was told when i was younger though - that i had cysts on both of my ovaries and that was the reason i was put on the birth control pill (i had SEVERE pain back then)..

PCOS is a culmination (sp) of symptoms my (idiot) ob/gyn ran a blood test and told me I didn't have PCOS but then I went to my RE and 30 seconds into the internal sono he pointed out the cysts on my ovaries. I am so glad I am under the care of an RE now who knows what he is doing and I didn't waste anytime this is my 1st month trying and I knew I was going to have a problem b/c I don't ovulate on my own and go months w/ out a period so when my ob/gyn referred me I was thrilled and thank god she did b/c who knows how long she would have tried to get me pregnant for w/ out actually treating me for PCOS.

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
I am 100% asking about this when I see the doc! Thank you!
They told me to expect a sonogram on day 1 of my visit on the 16th...so maybe that's what they'll be looking for.

I found my old OB/GYN to be quite ignorant as well, despite being the one to diagnose me via surgery. Thankfully my best friend is a doctor and she knew I needed an RE...wish I knew it sooner though!

When you go to your appt they may do a vaginal ultrasound and that's how I found I have PCOS. I cannot lose weight to save my life. I also have other symptoms, like the fat around my waist, spotting before my period, fatigue and extra hair (gross) on the side of my face. Lucklily I'm blond! lol

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
I have PCOS and I ovulate regularly. There is no defintive test but indicators. If they find you do have PCOS, they will check to see if you are insulin resistant. NOt all women are IR. If you are, then he may put you on metformin. As for the diet, you will be asked to watch your carbs (sugar) intake.

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
I have PCOS and am overweight as well. I am on Metformin, which has regulated my cycles. I ovulate every month, but have a very difficult time losing weight. I work out and eat healthy most of the time. It will take me a month to lose 5 lbs. But one week of not sticking to plan and it's back on.
Dr. Brenner has told me point blank that my weight is an issue in getting pg. He's also not very helpful in offering suggestions to lose weight with pcos. My weight affects how much of the meds are absorbed when in an IVF cycle. This is what he says. There are plenty of heavy pcos women who hyperstimulate, so I just got the raw end of the deal...pcos, overweight, slow/poor responder.

Re: Infertility & Your Weight
I gained a super amount of weight after having my DS. It totally sent my body out of wacked and then lead me to have PCOS.
My RE told me that I should try to lose at least 15 lbs. But after working out and eating better I have yet to actually lose it.
My RE is confidant that I will still be able to conceive though. I am on my 3rd clomid cycle with Metformin.
