Infected Finger
My sons finger blew up today and it was infected. They had to get rid of the junk filling up inside. It was awful. He was put on antibiotics.
Did anyone else ever experience this? Just wondering if it is common. He was in a lot of pain today. It was fine last night and by noon, it was awful. Ped said it could have spread up his arm!
Thanks

Re: Infected Finger
This happened to my son too, but was from an infected cuticle. He has a bad habit of picking at his cuticles. His finger looked red and white. So much pus came out when the dr cleaned it. He was fine after that and the antibiotics.

Infected Finger
Happened to me when I was younger. If I wrapped a bandaid around it, it actually helped the pain.

Yes I've had it from a bug bite of some sort. I did actually have cellutlits and could see the infection under the skin traveling upwards. Red, warm to touch skin is what you want to monitor and ensure its not traveling upward. I recd tetanus and injection antibiotic and then about 7 days of Keflex antibiotic. Hope he feels better. Just make sure her takes the meds and monitor for spreading !
My DD also had this on back of leg, but no cellulits. Dr lanced it on two visits, allowed drainage and gave antibiotic cream.

Re: Infected Finger
Yes, my son had cellulitis in his finger when he was 2.5. No idea what caused it, but it cleared up very quickly with antibiotics! The doctor also said it could be extremely serious if left untreated.

Re: Infected Finger
This happened to my husband. His finger got big and red/white swollen. We were leaving for a long weekend vacation. He said he would see the doctor when we got back on Monday. I said fine but if it turns green, we are going to the doctor while on vacation. Well, it turned green. We had to go to the emergency room as there were no local doctors offices open and it was a HUGE bill - all for a quick drain and some antibiotics. Grr! I would say - it felt better very quickly and my husband just had to remember to eat when taking the meds - otherwise he felt a bit woozy.

Infected Finger
More common than we realize. Likely a staph inf, I had MRSA on my boob from an infected hair folical (like, how?), DH had MRSA 3 times, and my sister once, on her finger, from an infected cuticle. She was on antibiotics for 10-14 days and was fine. Me too, though they had to change mine after 3 days, and DH had no issue with the standard treatment each time. Hope he feels better fast!
