Infant Car Seat Advice Needed - especially BTDTs
I think we've decided to go with the Chicco KeyFit infant car seats, but I'm not sure what weight limit to pick.
We plan to get a double snap n go in addition to a stroller.
I know Baby Bargains recommends the KeyFit 30, but I'm actually leaning towards getting the ones that only go up to 22 lbs.
My reasoning is that since I have a bad back and shoulder, I can't imagine carrying the kids in a 9+lb car seat when they are 22 lbs. That's just way too heavy for me to lift.
By that point I figure I'll be leaving the car seats in the car ... so we may just switch to the convertible seats by then.
Am I crazy? Should we just get the 30 lb ones?

we registered for graco but only did the ones that go to 22lbs. By the time they are bigger, we will probably not be using the double snap and go anymore anyway and will use the regular stroller.

what is the height limit on the 22?
we pushed the 30 to its limit with DS. we switched him at 9 months, 21lbs and 30 inches. you should be fine with the weight, i would just confirm the height

That's exactly it, you're not carrying around a baby that's 35lbs in a car seat. Especially because you will have TWO babies that are 35 lbs in car seats. And by the time they are 22lbs, they are not going to want to be in the car seat anymore, anyway when you're taking them into a store or something. You'll end up having them in the stroller. I think I switched DS to the convertable car seat at around 9 months or so.

Your logic is absolutely correct. My son was almost 20lbs at 9 months and between that and the 10lb+ carrier itself, we just switched him to the convertible carseat at that point. I really dont see the purpose of these 30-35lb carrier carseats.

According to this blog, both the 22 lb and the 30 lb have a height limit of 30 inches

Then definitely pick the 22 - they most likely won't even hit 20 lbs until they are closer to a year old (just going by averages) and by six months your back will be breaking, promise!

You girls are starting to make me think I'm crazy. We did the 35 and I already have the double snap and go. I just spent the day with an 11mo who is still in her 32 and I thought it was great. The infant car seat decision has been to most difficult!

Re: Infant Car Seat Advice Needed - especially BTDTs
As long as the height limit is still 30 inches I would do the 22. I say this because they are twins and you have a bad back. We switched Emmy at 10 months and she was 18lbs. We had the key fit 30. I loved it and reccomend it, but I would imagine the 22 is great as well.

I can tell you that at 11months my daughter would NEVER go for it. She wanted the independance of her own big seat. Plus she likes sitting in carts and so on and I found it harder to get her out of the bucket so switching when she was more "explorative" was great for us.

Re: Infant Car Seat Advice Needed - especially BTDTs
I feel that infant seats that go up to 30lbs are a gimmick. Most kids who are "bigger" will end up out growing the length faster than the weight.
And I think that a 30lb limit is funny anyway b/c a lot of 3 year olds are in that range for weight.

Re: Infant Car Seat Advice Needed - especially BTDTs
I'd get the 22. DD hit the height limit on her seat way before weight - she was about 9.5 months when we switched her. We had the Graco Snug Ride 32, and now at almost 18 months she is still only 25lbs

I don't think you're crazy ... there isn't a big price difference between the seats anyway. By getting the bigger seat, you'll have the option to keep them in there longer if you want to.
I just have physical limitations that I'm trying to find a solution for.

I think your instincts are right on. DD is 7 months old, 17 lbs, and I hate hauling her anywhere in her carseat at this point. I couldn't imagine that x2! I leave the carseat in the car and put DD in a stroller. We'll probably move her to a convertible at the end of the summer.
We got the Keyfit 30, but it's what came with our travel system.

agreed - only i switched DS between 4-5 mos. I had abdominal surgery and just couldn't lift the carrier. He liked the convertible seat better anyway!
eta: although with twins, i'd be inclined to keep them in the infant seats as long as possible for the convenience of popping them in and out of the car and stroller. I still think the 22lb is perfectly fine. Chances are they'll be around that weight at a yr old! (DS was a chunker and 22 lbs around 6m)
