infant benadryl - is there such a thing?
DD already has a milk protein allergy so now that we're doing solids, I would really like to keep Benadryl on hand, just in case. One problem - I cannot seem to find anything but the children's generic version. I know Benadryl was recalled so I have to get the generic, but is there an infant's version or just the children's?

No Infant version. Our allergist told us we could do 1/2 tsp-1tsp when our son was about 6-7 months old(he was maybe 15 lbs or so?) I usually give 1/2 tsp. If no improvement within 15 mions give the other 1/2. HTH

Re: infant benadryl - is there such a thing?
Thanks ladies - this is good to know - I'll pick up the children's version and get the dosing information at our next visit in a few weeks or if something happens in btw, I'll obviously call. Now I can stop checking every drugstore for something that doesn't exist!

I was looking for this too, to have as a precaution. Our pharmacist friend said there is no such thing, and probably because it can be lethal to infants.

Its not lethal to infants. It is not tested on infants. Your Dr can give you dosage instructions

My ped would not give me dosing instructions before. DD was *I think* 25lbs.

Just wanted to mention that Benadryl was on the recall list so maybe buy a generic version. I have been using allergy meds for Jaidy since she was a baby and always have some on hand. Your ped can give you the correct dosage.

Re: infant benadryl - is there such a thing?
Our ped told us to buy a generic. We were allowed to use the children's one when DS was a year old but it was really an emergency b/c we did not yet know how severe his egg allergy was. Then when the Dr. made a decision that we do not need an epi-pen, he did want us to always have benadryl ready. Now we have a generic of Claritin and our Dr. wants us to find Walgreens' Wal-dryl. Has anyone seen it in stock on LI recently?

I bought the generic today - I got children's Wal-Dryl - I hope not to have to use it, but I feel better having it on hand. At least then I have something if a situation arises and I need to just call the ped and get the dosage and an OK to use.
I live in the city and found plenty of Wal-Dryl at the Walgreens near me - not sure about LI. When I did a Target run a few weeks ago, I was amazed at how empty the generic shelves were - I got the last generic infants' Tylenol and Motrin.
