induction question...

if you are/were past your due date, how many days after your due date does/did your doctor want to schedule your induction?

any bdtd's able to have a natural birth (i.e. no epidural/pain meds) after being induced?

My dr wanted to induce me 5 days after my dd, but it was because I was on blood thinners. He would have let me go closer to 2 weeks if I wasn't on them and no health issues.

If there were no health issues, I would hold off inducing for 2 weeks.

On the day of my induction, I woke up with contractions and was able to go into labor on my own and not get induced!

My dr wanted to wait until 2 weeks past my DD before doing an induction - she said the baby would come when ready and she didn't want to interfere too
(i ended up having my water break a week after my DD anyway)

i have a friend who's 2 days past her DD and her dr has already scheduled her induction for 3 days from now

i guess its up to the particular dr's philosophy, as well as how you may feel about it

I was induced about a week after my due date - the day after I left my doctor with the ultimatum either I get to the hospital and get induced or she will dump me as patient. I was stubborn and really wanted a natural birth too. But all estimates showed baby would be at least 8lbs and my OB thought that was too much for me to handle naturally. She was pretty spot on, I was torn up like crazy. The worst part of it, was the being sewn up part for me.

I got to the hospital, and they started me on a very low dose of pitocin. My OB was okay trying it slow. I tried, I really did, but those induction meds are harsh even at low doses. And my contractions where not normal until the last 4 hours of the 24 I was in labor. I had these crazy plateaus of pain. Sometime around hour 12, my doctor came in and said I'm still progressing very slow and she didn't' think anything was going to happen till the next day.

It was really hard to rest, impossible to sleep, and I was afraid that if I didn't have energy to push, I'd be up for a c-section. I got an epi, slept about 8 hours and then the OB came and told me it should be happening in another 6-8 hours. And it did.

Honestly, as much as I wanted natural birth, I'm glad I had an OB that was honest and eye to eye with me. She turned off the epi a few hours before she thought I would go in labor. She thinks its essential to be able feel whats going on. She's very old school, and it came to close to "natural" as you can get.

But in the end, I had a very easy recovery (minus the stitches) and DS was model of perfection.

I was induced one week after my due date. Cervadil brought on labor. I begged for epi but it was possible to go without it.

When I went in on my due date (and had NOTHING going on), they scheduled me for one week later, since I was flirting with preclampsia. However, I was going a lot for BP/urine checks. At my appointment 2 days after my due date, the doctor said why are we making you come back and forth while we wait for a problem? You're already fully cooked, let's go. So I ended up getting induced 2 days after my due date.

I got cervadil at 8pm, Pitocin at 8 am, DS was born at 12:47 pm. I had been in a lot of pain and wasn't dilating, so they gave me morphine at about 4am and then again at 10am (I was still only 1cm). At 11:30 I was still only 1 cm. At 12:15 when they went to check to see if they could give me a mercy epidural (I was still in a lot of pain even with the morphine, although I don't remember it due to the morphine) when the Dr came back from lunch, I was already 10cm . I pushed for under 30 mins.

So while I wasn't completely medicine free, I did end up without an epidural and no c-section.

With DD1 I was induced 2 weeks after DD. The cervadil was tolerable, but indidnt think to ask what my hospitals policy was regarding being in bed or up and moving. I had to stay in bed, but it was still ok. I had psyched myself out with the piton before I even had it. I wound up needing an epi.

If you can wait closer to 41 weeks your more likely to go on your own. Good luck!! My child was just very stubborn lol
