Indoor Waterpark Rec?

Looking to take our three boys to an indoor waterpark in February for one or two nights.

I went once to Great Wolf and didn't like the lack of dining options.

Any recs other than that?

I saw online: Kalahari, Grand Cascades, Rocking Horse, and CocoKay.

Any info would be great. It's myself, my SO and the boys are eleven, seven, and two and a half.

Thanks!

We booked Kahlari for April.
Got GREAT reviews in everything. .. hotel, dining options, water park, etc.
Even has a swim up bar for the adults. Chat Icon

It's pretty much brand new and looks amazing. We can't wait!

Yes there was just a post about this on parenting and I looked it up. I'd avoid that one at all costs

OMG! Thanks!

Do tell though... what happened??

And I think I meant to write Camelback instead of Grand Cascades in my original post LMAO - sorry, it was late. Is Grand Cascades even a real thing??

Anyway, so it appears it is between Kalahari and Camelback.

How do I decide?! Chat Icon

Just take a gander on Trip Advisor and look at the pictures of the hotel rooms and the reviews on Coco Key.
That's all you'll need to know! Chat Icon
Nothing specific "happened" but it just looks like a dirty dump

Re: Indoor Waterpark Rec?

OMG I just saw it.

Yeah, NO.

That shit won't work for me.

SO? He wouldn't care LOL but me? NO!

Hmm - OK so I will have to choose between Camelback and Kalahari...

Seems the major difference is snow, correct? Meaning, tubing and whatnot? Which, I am not into and neither are the boys -- believe it or not -- so I don't know if that really matters to us.

Any other difference?

I have heard that the indoor waterpark at Camelback is more geared toward older kids while Kahalari has more options for younger kids (as well as older kids)

Wow. It is so funny you just posted this.

I was looking on TA at both of them and just from viewing the pics I'm like, is it just me or would Robert and Julian be like, bored and Pete and Daniel would be thrilled running around on all the rides for older kids at Camelback?? ...because Pete and Daniel (he is 11) could just do anything but me, who has to stay with Julian since he's the baby, and Robert, who only just turned six, would need to hang back.

It was pretty evident from the pics online that this is the case. So, I am definitely leaning toward Kalahari.

They have a deal where you get an overnight in a bunkbed suite -- so, it's a queen bed for me and Pete, then they have a safari themed bunkbed for Robert and Daniel. Then Julian stays in the pack-n-play... and it includes waterpark admission for all, pizza and four sodas, a $50 arcade gift card, and breakfast for everyone the following morning. It was $439. (Weekend rate -- weekday was cheaper)

Kalahari looks fun, but it lacks indoor activities other than the waterpark and arcade. Camelback has an indoor ropes course, etc. My kids are older though (8 and 16).

We are going to kalahari at the end of January. Df and I have 8 dc between us ages 2.5-10 and we booked the family suite for all of us. (Unlike GWL, apparently at kalahari kids under 3 don't count toward the room occupancy. The two 2yos will sleep in pnp's). We are just staying one night. I have been to great wolf lodge and while the kids had a blast I am not a fan of indoor water parks in general. I am cautiously optimistic though because kalahari is brand new, and it looks like there are rides and activities for all of the kids. And the swim-up bar will help too.

Re: Indoor Waterpark Rec?

We went to Kalahari first weekend in December. On the plus side - the food choices were sooooo much better than GWL! We managed to try both table service restaurants, the bakery and candy shop. We didn't eat at the buffet. I did send back the coconut shrimp I ordered because it was (IMHO) obviously cooked twice. DH had prime rib and said it was excellent.

On the down side, other than the arcade, there is nothing to do if you're not at the water park. DH is not a fan of the arcade so he wasn't happy (but then again, he's not a big fan of MagiQuest either - but of the two, he would rather run around the resort playing MagiQuest with DD).

Of the water park itself - the little kid area is WAY better than GWL. The swim up bar is nice, but nowhere near everything else, so you cannot sit in the pool and watch your kids at the same time. The lazy river is anything but lazy, and seemed to be to be 1/2 the size of the one at GWL. They did build it in such a way as to make it appear to be in a canyon which is really cool (as is the art work on the walls). The towels are small and not heated. One other thing to keep in mind is the resort opened in July 2015 after Phase I of the resort was completed. Phase II construction is ongoing. We did not hear any noise whatsoever from the construction, but I thought I would mention it so you're not surprised.

All in all, we really liked it. DH & I however discussed going back to GWL and leaving to go eat at Kalahari when December rolls around again and we take our next trip.

Re: Indoor Waterpark Rec?

Thank you so much, everyone, and especially above poster for the reviews and information.

I think it really depends on your family and what you are going for/need.

For us, since I have two little guys -- 2.5 and 6 the fact that the little kid area has a lot is PERFECT for our specific needs. We can spend time together doing that because our older guy is so good about being a "big brother" and when we do want to divide and conquer the older guy can go with daddy on the rides.

Also, we want food options. GWL - I was not happy AT ALL with the fact that they had that one little restaurant that barely had anything on the menu. Everyone is different but for me, I would never go back because of that -- I absolutely do not want to travel off property to eat either so that's a no go for me.

Also for us, the arcade would be a big hit in our family and we are only planning on staying one night -- MAYBE two at the most so for us, the pools/waterpark and then dinner and arcade at night would be enough. But I could totally understand why for some it wouldn't be -- and when the boys are older things will probably change and a place like Camelback would be better.

But thank you so much for the information because without that "review" I would not have really known and with all the info I received here and on TA now I know exactly what to expect and which place to choose that is best for our specific needs.

I'm excited - the kids will be thrilled.

Yes, SO and I agreed on that too -- and we really think that we will do Camelback when the boys are older, which will be fun.
