I’m sorry I haven’t updated in a while, but…
I’m so unbelievably, deliriously, happy to say “I’M KNOCKED UP!!!” 
I couldn’t bring myself to post about another cycle only for it to end in disappointment again so I coasted quietly through this cycle that ended up being only 9 days of stims. I went right from my last failed IVF to this one and I think that’s what really helped. The estrogen from 2WW supplements was still in my system and we discovered that I was only using half the prescribed dose of human growth hormone the last time so even though we doubled it, I was really only on the correct amount. So, here’s my success story in case it will help any other 40-something desperate IFers (I can’t believe I’m finally posting this – sorry so long).
Drugs: 4 iu human growth hormone (the wonder drug for me); 600 gonal-f, down to 450 after 3 days; 2 vials of menopur; 25 iu ganirelix after 6 days; dexamethasone daily; cipro prior to ER. I also did 100 mg DHEA; vitamin D; 3 mg melatonin and a prenatal every night.
Eggs: I had my retrieval on 2/10/11. Three eggs were retrieved and I found out the next morning that they all fertilized (the last time 3 also fertilized but 2 were abnormal). Two days later on 2/12 all three were transferred and my 2WW hell began. We did bd the night before ET as there are studies that show that embryos are attracted to the pheromones in semen.
The entire 2WW I was EXHAUSTED! I couldn’t keep my eyes open beyond 9 p.m. but other than that I had no symptoms (except for the pseudo-symptoms from progesterone). In the past I would always feel twinges and bloating, but not this time. Then, for some unknown reason I did a hpt at 8dp2dt and there was a faint BFP. I was in shock and all of a sudden in doubt thinking it was still from the trigger shot. So, the moral of this story is to wait! Wait till at least 12dpo! On 9dp2dt the BFP was still faint but I had an appointment for blood work at Dr. Bs so I admitted what I had done and they agreed to run a beta and told me that it would be very low considering how soon it was. Well, we were shocked when it came back at 82!!! 2nd beta on Wednesday, 2/23 at 11dp2dt was 280 and yesterday it was 1,918 at 16dp2dt. I can breathe (for now).
This is the first cycle that I didn’t do acupuncture. I simply couldn’t afford it any more but I PRAYED like I haven’t prayed since I was in Catholic school! It really hasn’t sunk in yet. I can’t believe that by the end of this year we could have a baby girl or boy. We still have a long way to go and I’m so nervous to move on so I’m going to stick around here to support the best group of women on LIF.
So, at 42 (43 in 2 months), and after nearly 3 years of infertility, 1 miscarriage, 1 chemical, a lap, 4 REs, 3 IUIs and 5 IVFs, this is hopefully our miracle!
Most importantly I want to thank everyone on this board for their support, advice and prayers when I needed them. I would never have found Dr. B, who really is a magician. When I suggested moving to DE he asked me to try again with my own eggs. He promised me that he wouldn’t rest until I had a baby and so far he has kept his promise.
Also, I will say it again, I see quite a few negative comments about AFS but I had the best experience ever of any of the 4 clinics I have been to – and I’m not just saying that because I had success. I’m praying that each and every one of you have your hopes and dreams answered.
