I'm new, and have some questions...
Hi everyone! I just joined. I've been married for 8 months and we are TTC for the first time this month. We didn't use a calendar, didn't do anything other than have lots of non-protected sex. I think I'm getting my period. I'm a little sad. But, I know I didn't monitor my ovulation or anything, so I guess I really shouldn't have expected anything. So now when I get my period... I need to start monitoring - doing what it is you do when you are TTC --- WHAT IS THAT??? Can anyone recommend a good book/website?
When I last saw my dr. 3 months ago, I was just going off the pill and not trying yet, so I didn't ask there.
Thanks in Advance!

Re: I'm new, and have some questions...
I started using OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) to determine when i was ovulating. IMO the best ones are the ClearBlue Easy digital. Theyre alittle $$$ but there is no guessing.

Thank you! When do you use them? When you first get your period? Should I buy them now while I'm expecting my period?

Re: I'm new, and have some questions...
I bought first response opk and had it for a couple of months until we decided to actually start TTC. The instructions on the box tell you exactly when to start using it...it's a little after your period ends. HTH

You would use them after your period ends, so you can buy them when you get AF
HTH!
Welcome to the board!
You can also chart while you use the OPKs-just to keep track of where you are in your cycle.
If this doesn't work for you and you want to go very hard core, you can try temping. You will need a basal thermometer and you take your temp every day when you wake at the same time. There are websites, like Fertility Friend that will help you track your temps and tell you what the significance are-it will show you a pattern and give you a better look into your cycles-but I personally would start OPKs first and if you want to step it up a notch, you can always temp. Maybeamommy, one of our favorite posters has a pinned thread at the top of the page which can answer a lot of your questions! Good luck!

I'm not sure how long they are. I think they are about the normal 28 days, but I don't know exactly. I was on the pill for a long time and have been off for 4 months now. My period was normal - about the same time of the month, but I never counted exactly. Stupid me! So now I definitely will! My period is due now, and I feel all the PMS symptoms, so I guess I'll be able to track my cycle now.
Do you guys only BD when you are ovulating? Is it bad to do it when you know you're not? My mom swears she got pregnant with my sister during her period - she said that she thought she couldn't get pregnant, and she did. That was the only time she saw my dad that month - they were 19 and in different colleges.
Sorry if that was TMI - I just find that story amazing.
I actually find it so amazing how many years of our lives we spend trying not to get pregnant, and then when we want to, how hard it is. I'm sure I'm not the first to make that observation on here.
Sorry this is so long! I'm really excited to be in this stage of my life and to have people to talk to about it!

Many girls BD every other day from abbout the time AF ends to +opk. Then they BD a+opk day and the 2 days after.
The 1st time i got pg, we BDed the day of +opk and that was it. This time it was day before +opk and day of +opk
