I'm I five months....??
Tomorrow I turn 18 weeks...is this technically the start of my fifth month? I honestly have know idea...

Calculate months based on the date of your last period. So for me, that's Oct 28. Every 28th of the month, I'm another month pregnant. That way you don't get lost in the "I'm pregnant for 10 months" thing.

I thought that you go by the amount of weeks you are pg? That is what my dr. does atleast. Today is my 20th week and I am entering my 5th month I thought today. Maybe not though!

I was under the impression that is how you counted to find out the months too..but I also have been following my pregnancy book too..and i states that I'm 5 months...lol...confusing

I think this only works if you have a normal 28 day cycle. My last period was 2/12 but I'm "only" 8 weeks pregnant. If I went by LMP I'd be 10 weeks.

this is exactly how i do it - a month does not equal 4 weeks, so i count how many weeks i am for "medical" purposes, but on the 6th of every month, since that was the date of my LMP, i count myself a month further along (works better for people who still think pregnancy = 9 months  )

This whole months vs weeks thing confuses the heck out of me.
I am 20 weeks and due 9/5. So this should make me 5 months but then I get caught up in the 10 month thing.
So I just give up on weeks and if anyone asks I tell them I am 5 months pregnant

that's not what she's saying - she is saying that each month on the anniversary of your LMP, you are another month along.
and technically speaking, you are pregnant for the first two weeks of your LMP, even though you haven't O'd yet - it's just how doctors calculate due dates. there isn't a lot of adjusting going on unless you have a really short or a really long mentrual cycle. my cycles typically last 23-25 days, and i am still going to be 20 weeks on wednesday, even though i O'd and imnplanted earlier than someone with a typical 28 day cycle.

When speaking to anyone that is pregnant or was pregnant recently, I always use the Weeks. What to Expect and all the other books tell you what month you are in. They are all the same as far as I've seen, but not easy to figure out on your own. If I'm telling someone how far along I am that doesn't know much about pregnancy I just divide the weeks by 4 and say thats the months. So at Week 20 I said I was 5 months. That seems to be the closest way to get to what the books say.
I will be 36 weeks next Monday and this is where it will get tricky - those that don't get the week thing will ask and I'll say 9 months and they'll all think I'm due anyday....I'll probably just tell them I'm due May 26 and not give a month.
