Im home and....
...I can have babies!!!
This morning I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, D and C and tubal lavage.
I was the first surgery of Dr. Rosenfeld's that day. We woke up at 5 am and I took the second pill of Famotidine. It is essentially Pepcid to help with gas and nausea. We went over the Ambulatory Surgery Center at NSUH which as many of you know is right on top of the Center for Human Reproduction - Dr. Rosenfeld's office. We arrived at 6:05 only to be taken in at 6:25 - no administrative staff was there but the OR nurse came out to prep me.
She asked the standard pre-op questions and gave me a cocktail to help me deal with pain and nausea afterwards. It was Tylenol and Celebrex. Then Dr. Rosenfeld popped in and asked us how we were doing. DH responded "fine" and I told him I didnt have the same answer." Dr. R told us that these procedures will give us answers and we will be fine. I was actually not scared of the surgery, but what I would hear when I woke up. Then the anesthesiology nurse came in to talk to us and took me in to the OR.
The OR was a very sterile room with lots of people and machines. It was intimidating and I was actually giving myself a pep-talk (silently of course or else they would have done a frontal lobotomy). I met the anesthesiologist and then I can't remember anything til I woke up in recovery.
I saw Dr. R again and he said everything went well and HE GOT MY CERVIX TO OPEN!! . So I asked him in my semi-conscious state "Can I have babies?" and he said "More than likely yes." I said "I am ovulating now." and he said "Leslie this month is out." I knew this, but I couldnt get it out that I would have about another month before I was in my fertile week again -giving me what I thought was enough time to heal before giving IUI's a shot.
I was incredibly queasy and nauseous despite how doped up I was and apparently, they gave me every possible thing. I think I got nauseous from the pain meds. It is possible they gave me morphine. I know I was also given Zofran for the nausea because I remember Dr. Rosenfeld coming back to see me again and he ordered it for me. People were being wheeled in and out around me and they wanted me to sit up in a chair. At that point I put my underwear on because there was bleeding. I wanted to go home but they wouldnt release me until I urinated. At that point, DH came in and sat with me until I was able to go to the bathroom. I had been dry heaving and he was very comforting to me. DH and the nurse walked me to the bathroom and I did my thing. Then we went back to the recovery room to get dressed and go. I laid down in the back seat and we were home in 5 minutes. We live about 2 miles from NSUH. I got home, cleaned up a little and went to bed at 11:30 am sleeping til close 2. I feel a lil queasy, but all in all just fine.
I have one Band-Aid on my pubic area that covers two tiny stitches and a bandage over my navel. I dont know if I will be able to get my ring back in, but that should be the least of my worries. My throat is scratchy from the tube butI was warned that may happen.
DH was able to process most of what the doctor said when he spoke to him. The long and the short of it is:
They were able to open my cervix and EVERYTHING else is clear and fine - including my tubes. I may be starting IUIs as soon as next cycle. Thats all I wanted to know and thats all I wanted to hear.
Dr. Rosenfeld was amazing. He was comforting, competent and confident. For those of you who used him and were happy, I know why.
Once again, I would like to thank you all for your support both publicly and privately. I could not have made it through this without your kind words and thoughts. Each and every one of you who spend time here inspire me. DH said to be last night that I have to remember only one thing - that "Good things happen to good people." He made me say that before going in and when I woke up. It helped tremendously. Please remember that!
ETA: I do not know if I will need to be dilated again at IUI time. But he didnt mention it.

Re: Im home and....
this is great news
please be aware (and I don't want to scare you) but the lap surgery left an air bubble in me, which went away after 24 hours, but at times was very painful - esp in the right shoulder - its nothing to worry about and DO NOT GO TO THE ER LIKE I DID - just walk around a bit

Yeah the gas is making its way out. I have been burping a lot. I am also peeing a lot because I had two IV bags - it took me a longer time to recover due to nausea. I cant even imagine what it would have been like without the medicine.

I always felt that the tubes were fine, but if I hadnt requested an HSG after 2 months in my regular GYN's office, I neevr would know I had this cervical/anatomic issue. I am ready for IUIs (mentally) and look forward to getting this over with and enjoying a pregnancy. I wish nothing but the same for everyone else. One of the best parts of this whole thing was learning how to avocate for myself and get the treatment I need - you all taught me how to do that!
BTW, I have a transdermal patch for nausea behind my ear and I cannot take it of til tommorrow. That may explain why my balance is off and why i am so sleepy!. It looks like the same patch I got for a cruise I went on!

Re: Im home and....
Thanks again everyone! Now I am crampy and have a little more pain since the meds are wearing off. I am dizzy because they gave me a nausea patch and my coordination is shot. But it will all be worth it.
