I'm having a mini heart attack
I noticed a deduction on my return that was not taken. We miss it. I found out my cpa is out of the office until Wed now.
WHAT??????
We are e-filing..so I got the return yesterday, checked it and called them today. It's not filed yet.
I'm panicked waiting for his call back and whether or not we are going to extend.
Damn....I don't need this.
I mean it's all good news for me but this stress I don't need.

Re: I'm having a mini heart attack
Well even though it's Monday, he and his other cpa colleague are out of the office!
I'm just going to breathe..I'm sure they have contingencies set up. I just got the return yesterday to review.

Yup -- tax day is the 18th this year -- not today.
If it gets sent in, then your CPA can always file a 1040X for you no problem....and since it's a deduction they should have gotten for you...they should do it free of charge.

I send them a breakdown of everything and didn't send them this but last year I had the same deduction so I thought it should have been caught like other things they asked me about. They needed breakdowns of other deductions and some documents that I provided after I sent them the initial packet.
This year was expensive. I hope it won't cost me more.
Trying to remain calm.

Do you think filing an amendment brings attention to your return-the unwanted kind?
Super paranoid about being audited. Did that once, never ever want it to happen again.

Re: I'm having a mini heart attack
Do you owe money or are you getting a refund?
My understanding is that taxes are only due on the 18th if you owe, there is no penalty if they owe you money.

Refund..and more of a refund after this deduction is taken.
I just hope he is not charging me additional fees for submitting the extension.
It was already way more than I thought it was going to be.

We amended our taxes one year when we overlooked a huge deduction. I was afraid of the same thing, but it all worked out fine

Re: I'm having a mini heart attack
If you are receiving a refund -- you didn't have to file an extension. You could have filed after the 18th!
The 18th is when taxes are due or when an extension should be filed if you need more time to file the return, and should be postmarked or received electronically.
You shouldn't have to file any extension at all and pay more fees if your taxes are all paid and you are receiving a refund.

I'm not 100% sure he did file the extension but his office did tell me he would talk to me on Wednesday and we would discuss it then. Extension wasn't confirmed.
I thought either way you have to file an extension but if you owe you have to pay by the deadline.
