Re: I'm getting really discouraged!!!
First off, i am sending you lots of hugs. Breastfeeding is the biggest mind game you will ever experience. You will cosntantly doubt yourself, you will constantly worry that your baby isnt getting enough food, but, know that it gets easier!
I have EBF my DS for almost 9 months and i felt exactly how you are feeling now. He got some formula in the beginning because my milk took a week to come in, but after that he only had my milk. I pumped in the beginning to start getting a supply because I needed to have a procedure done. I would pump a few times a day after he ate and after 2 1/2 months I had 80 oz in the freezer.
How old is your DC?? If you are getting 1/2 oz after you feed him, then that I think is good. Always remember that your DC is much more efficient in getting the milk out than your pump ever will be. I too only got small amounts when i was pumping in the beginning. Why are you pumping in the first place? I hated pumping, and after my procedure, i stopped pumping. I started back to pumping, but i am doing that every other night, just so I have fresh milk for his cereal.
Just from my experience, in the beginning I constantly felt like i did not have enough milk. DS was a very eager eater and cluster fed A LOT. There were times when i would just cry because he was crying and i thought it was because he was hungry. When you breastfeed, if your child needs more milk, the best thing is to let them nurse more frequently and within a couple of days, your body will be producing more milk.
Hang in there. It did feel like all i did in the begining was feed DS. (He ate every hour and forty five minutes - two hours for the first 3 months) Surround yourself with supportive people and try to join a La leche League group. I am subscribed to the Manhasset group, and the emails are great because I read about what other BF moms are dealing with.
If you want to talk, defiinitely FM me.
