I'm at a loss

My parents will be married for 50 years next year and my sister and I are trying to figure out what to do. Of course the simple answer is a party. My mom would probably like that, but I know my dad would not. Tickets to a show is out, that's not their cup of tea either. We're thinking maybe take them to Foxwoods for a weekend? My dad is a big gambler and we can treat my mom to a massage. And then go out for a really nice dinner. But is that lame? I'm definitely open to suggestions. Nothing overly active. My dad doesn't walk all that well, so keep that in mind.

I really like your Foxwoods idea. Seems like there would be things that they would both enjoy. Plus everything is under one roof so it's simple to organize.

I know you said no party, but for my aunt and uncles 25th anniversary we are having a shower for them! Like a bridal shower…she is always saying you really only get towels, pots and pans, etc during ur bridal shower and ppl def need to replace old…so why not? something like that could be fun!!

I'd definitely say to let them get away for a bit! Foxwoods is a good idea, but what about a cruise if you could swing it? It wouldn't be much more than a big party anyway. Plenty of gambling and massages on those! Chat Icon

What about a party with a theme? My SIL turned 50 this summer and her boyfriend had a party and he had "fake" gambling set up. It was so fun.

What about a wine tour? We got a big party bus for my mom's 60th birthday two years ago. She didn't walk very well then (can't walk at all for the time being due to a stroke), and that was a concern. However, she just had to walk from the bus to the two wineries.

We went to Raphael and Peconic Bay. We did tastings at both. At Peconic, we got picnic tables, did an open bar, had cake, and just hung out there for a couple of hours.

I really like the Foxwoods idea because it is family oriented.

Bless them that they have 50 years together.

We thought about a cruise, but decided it may not be best for a couple if reasons. The main one being that I don't think my sister can afford it. I would wind up paying the bulk of it. Cruises are affordable until you're paying for 6 people. Plus any drinking, spending, gambling, excursions, etc...
We also thought about a casino themed party, but the problem is my dad doesn't really like all of my moms family. He gets along with them fine, but he wouldn't chose to spend 3-4 hours with them if it's up to him. Lol
I think Foxwoods may just be the way to go. Maybe we'll invite both my parents brother/sister and their spouses to join us.

This is what we did for my grandparents and it was great, all the kids and grandkids and great-grandkids... it was a wonderful trip... so much so that since then, my grandparents decided we needed to go every other year since (this was 10 years ago)... so we've gone every other year since... Even now that my grands don't get off the boat much, we still go and have a wonderful time - we do dinner and night-time activities together, and separate during the day - but there is a standing invitation to any and all who want to join that at 4pm we always play cards.

I like the idea you have, but if you wanted to do a cruise what about having a nice dinner the night before and just sending them on it? That would be very affordable!

You know what, I'm having triple deja vu right now.... I think maybe 3-4 months ago there was a very similar posting on here... if you search you might find some other ideas.

That would be totally affordable, but I don't think they would want to go without us. They're just like that. We all went on a cruise together two years ago and my parents didn't love it. They would only enjoy it if we were all there to help keep them entertained, eat with them, go to the shows, etc... They're difficult. Lol

Do they like to travel anywhere else?
Other than a cruise?
Or are they not big travel people?

They used to travel a lot, but now with my dad having mobility issues, it's more of a PITA. Pretty much any trip they do take is centered around the idea of a casino. Chat Icon They will do Newport, Foxwoods/Mohegan, Poconos casino, Vegas once a year when my aunt and uncle are there for the winter, and that's pretty much it. I know they would probably love us to all go to Mexico, we used to go a lot and have many great memories there. The problem is, my niece doesn't have a passport. My sister has had no contact with my niece's dad since she was a baby and she can't get her a passport without his signature. Chat Icon

What about dinner on the World Yacht? DH and I went for our first anniversary and it went around NY Harbor and there was dancing, food and drinks. It was $100 each and we had a fantastic time.
