I'm a Mommy!!
Hi Ladies,
Well, I just got home today with my LITTLE GIRL!!! I ended up needing a c-section so they kept me for 4 days. We're still trying to figure everything out and get used to it all.
Here's my birth story:
As I posted on Saturday, my water broke around 11:15 in the morning. I had just gone to sleep at 8:30 after working Friday night. When I called the doctor he said to come to the hospital. So, DH and I got there around 1pm. They checked me out and admitted me. I was having contractions (all back labor) about every 7 minutes. The doctor came in around 5pm and examined me. He said that I was only about 2cm dilated and that the baby's head was still pretty high. He said that it could take 24-36 hours after your water breaks for true labor to set in, so we would just wait to see if it happened on its own. He said that I could not get up and walk around (other than to go to the bathroom) because since my water broke already he was afraid that the cord would start coming down first.
So, all night I was having terrible back labor, but it was too early to start an epidural. So, I got some Nubain for the pain (which didn't really help!).
The next morning, the doctor came in and looked at the tracing from the monitor and said that the baby had been stable all night and then he examined me. He said I was still only 2cm dilated and the head was still high, so we would just wait another day to see if labor would start on its own. He said if it didn't, he would give me Cervidil on Monday morning to get things started.
Well, just as he was explaining all this to me, the nurse called his attention to the fetal monitor. I didn't know what had happened, but I knew something was wrong. It seems that right then the baby's heart rate dropped very low and the nurse kept trying to move the doppler to find it again, thinking that the baby had just moved into a position that the monitor could not pick up. Well, the heart rate came back up after about a minute. The doctor looked at the recording strip and said that he didn't like the rhythm. He said it looked like the cord was being compressed by the baby's head. He said the baby was in distress and he was getting her out right then! He was afraid that if we waited until I went into full labor and this didn't resolve that the heart rate would keep dropping. So, he called for anesthesia to come right away. He wanted to give me a "spinal" because he said it works faster and he wanted the baby out ASAP!
The anesthesiologist got there in about 5 minutes and said that he can get an epidural in and working in the same amount of time as a "spinal" takes, so he would rather do that. So, I went to the OR, got the epidural, and the baby was out about 45 minutes from when the doctor first decided to do the section. I finally had my little girl!! When they took her out, the cord was wrapped around her neck, and her head was pressing it against the wall of my uterus.
I was so scared for my baby, but thank God everything worked out okay and she is just beautiful -- and perfect!! 
I really believe that my Mom was watching over her from heaven. If the heart rate hadn't dropped at that very minute, the doctor would have left for the day. The nurses may not have known that she was in distress since the heart rate came right back up. It was just the rhythm that the doctor didn't like that made him decide to do the c-section.
In any case, all is well that ends well, right?

The same exact thing happened when I gave birth. It is so scary at the time because you have no idea what's going on
I am glad it all turned out okay and she is an absolutely beautiful baby girl
