I'M A MOMMY!!!

Hi Everyone... I am finally getting a chance to sit and type ... I wanted to share my birth story and some pics with you!! Happy Thanksgiving by the way.. I was busy with a little Turkey of my own!!

It finally happened last Sun. (the 19th) while I was watching Desperate Housewives. I felt a strong cramp ( like period cramps) and then it went away. This was around 9;30. By 10:15 I was getting regular cramping and it started to get worse. I still didn't call the Dr. because I thought I was being hopeful and impatient so I just let it go. DH told me to call the Dr. but I just let it pass. Prior to this though, I did feel, starting from the night before (Sat. ) that I was going to go in Sun. or Mon. I just had a strong feeling. So Sun. I cleaned like a lunatic. I was still cleaning during my 'cramps' that night. Finally they were coming often and STRONG so I went to the bathroom and saw that I started bleeding. That is when I knew I had to call the Dr., So I did. She called me back and asked questions and told me to head to the hospital when they were 5 min. apart. By the time I got off the phone with her.. they were 5 min. apart. Being that this is my first child, I was so scared thinking .. I could have the baby in the car.. they're only 5 min apart.. I started to get nervous. I told DH we better start heading to the hospital in a few mins. So, I jumped into the shower really quick and got dressed and so did DH. We headed out at around 11:30 / 11:45 pm. The hospital was 20 min away and my contractions were about 5 min apart. I wanted to pass out from the pain. I don;t want to scare you guys but the pain was truly UNBEARABLE... The most horrific period cramps in the world. I was screaming.. so DH decides to speed and wouldn't you know it??? We get pulled over!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOO... DH pulls over in a parking lot and the cop is taking FOREVERRRRRR to get out of the car!!!!!!!!!! So I told DH if this @#*&#@ doesn't get out of the car I'm going to go over there oull him out!! lol... Finally he gets out and starts flashing his flashlight in the car saying "Do you know why I pulled you over" ... before he got the last word out I was SCREAMING>.... "NO NO NO... you can't do this now I gotta go .. I am dying I have to get to the hospital .. not now!!!"... This cop looked at me like I was a raving lunatic.... DH was so calm " My wife is in labor," he tells the cop. So the cop said I'll follow you to the hospital .. let's go. So We had a police escort all the way to the emergency room. LOL.. It is so likely that this would happen to us!!
I got to the hospital emergency room pretty quick and I was brought upstairs in a wheel chair while DH parked the car. I could barely see straight from the pain. The nurse brought me in such a nice room and I changed into a gown and went into bed. It took her about an hr. to ask me the routine questions since my contractions were 2 min apart and I was screaming in pain. After DH arrives and we finish the question and answer part.. they tell me the epidural was a little delayed because there were 2 women ahead of me. I said "please can you please help me?" "I can't survive this... I think I am going to die!!" DH thought I was nuts and this nurse felt so bad fo rme . By that time my contractions were less than a min apart and I had no relief between them what so ever. I had to wait for the IV drip to finish also before they administered the epi and in the meantime they also administered IV antibiotics because I tested positive for Strep B. All of a sudden.. in walks the anethesiologist and I thought at that moment I saw GOD himself!!! I have to admit I was a little nervous mostly about the epi but with that pain.. I didn't care at all. Well he completes the whole process in less than 10 mins. and I didn't feel a thing. The only weird thig about it all was the last part when they check the side you are most numb.. you feel a tingle down your leg.. like a jolt of electricity. It's painless but strange. Then that was it. He tapedthe tube up my back and told me I may feel 2 or 3 more contrations and that will be it. I felt about 2 more and then I WAS FINE!!!!!!!!! All of the pain disappeared like magic. It was the most wonderful thing in the world. I didn't care what happend to me after that.. I was in heaven!! The epidural is not painful so do not be scared of it. They had me leaning on my right side for the epi to work more efficiently but the baby's heartbeat was dipping because of it so they kept changing my sides. He heartbeat was steady, it wasn;t a major thing but there was a slight dip so they kept me on each side and changed my side periodically. After they administered the Epi. they inserted a cathiter (SP?) which was nothing because I was numb. We were able to finish more quesions and they made me and DH comfy. I had to wait because I was still onlly dilated 4cm. from the week before. DH fell asleep in the recliner and the nurses tucked him in with pillows and blankets. It was so funny. I was freezing so they gave us both heated blankets. They brought us soda, juice, water. I felt like I was in a hotel. The room even had pay per view movies, internet and playstation. I laid in bed and watched TV and Dh fell asleep. At around 3 am they checked me again and I was about 7 cm. I was still up and could not sleep. The exciitement kept me going. I was administered ephedrin by IV also becuase my blood pressure had dropped really low. I have low BP to begin with. By 7 am I was still slowliy dialting so they broke my water to get things going. They also suggested pitocin to get things going if I didn't dilate after they broke my water. I was given pitocin at around 9 or 10 am becuase I was about 7 1/2 cm by then. I felt tightening (contractions) but no pain and It was very frequen and they said more intense. DH was able to see the contractions on the monitor and I couldn't feel a thing. It was great. No matter what they did to me I couldn't feel it. I became very brave after the epi... for someone who is deathly afraid of Dr.'s and hospitals. After the pitocin I started dilating and they said I would be ready to push soon. I was starting to get nauseated from all of the medications and had occaionally threw up also. But even that wasn't terrible. During one of the last internals, they fell the baby's head was tilted upward instead of down so they made me lay on my side with my leg up for about an hour. After that they checked and I was pretty much fully dialted and the baby's head moved to the downward position they were hoping for. So they made me do a practice push and I did well! They started prepping me for delivery and DH... and we started .... We waited for contractions and the nurse helped me with the pushing. She held 1 leg, DH held the other and the DR. was down below. I started pushing at about 12;30 pm and she was coming down fast but we had to wait for contractions. Because I couldn't feel them and because they started to come very far apart again. Her head made a quick appearence and they were all laughing at her hair!!! I needed to have a bit of help becuase the Dr. noticed she was lodged under my pelvic bone so she inserted a vacuum to help her out. By 1:06 pm on November 20th... SKYLAR RAE was born ............ and she came out screaming!! She was 7lbs. 8 oz. 20 1/2 inches long.

I was crying and DH was in amazement!! She was so beautiful and sounded OK!!! That was my main concern. I on the other hand started losing alot of blood and ran a fever as they took her to weigh her and clean her. I also needed stiches because I did have a small tear. I was administered penisulin and tylenol and they watched me closely. All in all the birth was such a great experience. It is amazing!!!!!!!! The worst thing was the pain befroe the epi. After that......... I wouldn't mind doing it over again. I would do it in a heartbeat!!
Everyone was so nice at the hospital and the baby nurses were amazing. I was sore for awhile but it was tolerable. They helped you alot and I had my family and DH to help me up for the first day or so getting in an out of bed. They give you maternity pads which were great and the tucks pads to line the pads with. They also gave me a foam to use to help with the healing of the stiches. The sitz bath helps and so does the squirt bottle they give you to clean yourself with. It was OK, not really painful . The baby stayed in the room with us mainly and DH spent every night with me. Everything turned out OK and we came home Wed. afternoon - the day before Thanksgiving!! I tried Breast feeding but it wasn't working out well and it was so very painful. I was also in pain while pumping at home so I put her on fomula. It really didn;t work out for me vey well.
That's it .. that's my story... as of today... she was one week old yesterday. We brought her for her first Dr. visit today and she is doing so well. She eating every 2-3 hrs. about 3 oz. of formula and she now weighs 8 lbs. 3 oz!!

We are so in love with her !! I can just sit and stare at her for hours on end. It is so amazing and I can't imagine life without her now!!

Thank you guys so much for all of your help and support and for listening to all the rants and raves over the past 9 mo.!! Also, to all the new moms on the board .. I wish you a safe and happy pregnancy. Enjoy it all and don;t be scared,.... it is so amazing and you will realize after how lucky you truly are!!

That is the best birth story ever! You moved me to tears - the video is great and your daughter is precious. I can't wait until my little one arrives now.

BTW - that is hilarious about being pulled over - that would SO happen to me!!

How is your Yorkie adjusting? We have a Yorkie and he is so spoiled and I'm a little worried about jealousy issues. Did you do anything to prepare your dog for the baby before she arrived?
