Pretty decent. Our kitchen table is from there and so is our bed frame. Both holding up nicely.

It's so cheap (well, most of it) because you have to put it together your self.

Re: IKEA

We bought an entertainment center from there. We love it and it was fairly cheaper than alot of other furniture places. It only took about an hour to put the whole thing together!

Re: IKEA

we have a lot of ikea stuff. The quality is not the very best, but you can't expect that... you have to put everything together. Also the waiting there can be horrendous. But its worth it.

Re: IKEA

I have a desk from them- I found it really hard to put together and it's about to fall over - not even 1 year later

I wont buy furniture from them again- unless it doesn't have to be put together

I have some stuff from crate and barrel that I put together and 5 years and 3 moves it's still great!

Re: IKEA

We have several pieces of furniture from them, and we haven't had any problems with them. But we also got the more expensive stuff they have, not the lower end stuff. (Though the stuff we bought is still cheaper than if we'd bought it elswhere).

Re: IKEA

As a company, I love IKEA. I think some of their product lines are pretty decent...and their cabinets rate very well with Consumer Reports.

I have a bookshelf and glass-top desk (and 2 lights/lamps) and have been very happy thus far. VERY easy to assemble and sturdy.

Re: IKEA

Almost our whole house is from Ikea (we're cheap b*stards, Chat Icon)! It's not as nice as furniture from higher-end stores (you definitely notice a difference in the quality of the wood, for example) but IMO you get a lot for your money. If you only have $200 to spend on an entertainment center, for example, you can come home with something nice from IKEA... or shop garage sales and figure out how to get it home yourself, you know?

There's definitely a learning curve for putting stuff together. The first time you try, it'll take you a while, but pretty much every piece requires the same moves, and by your second or third piece, you'll be a pro.

Re: IKEA

I love Ikea and own a fair amount of things from there. I will admit, that the lower end stuff doesn't quite compare with their higher end stuff, but for the most part I am very happy with what I have. One word of caution, pay attention to the weight limit, they really mean it.

Re: IKEA

like others said... i think its good, if you get the slightly higher end stuff. our office furniture is from there, and its really sturdy and is holding up well. we also just bought some of their laminate flooring and bookshelves for a room in the basement to make a "library". i like their bookshelves because you can really customize for what you want to use it for. you can move the shelves around, you can get doors for parts of it, CD racks, etc.... its really versitile. but i think as far as couches and stuff... not sure if i would go there for them. i like it more for office stuff/bookshelves, things like that. another word of caution: go there during the week!! its gets NUTS on the weekends, and it really is worth taking a day off and going during the week just to avoid the craziness.

weight limit?

The amount that you can put on the furniture. I bought a tv stand and neglected the 100 pound weight, and put my tv on it and about six tv componests, (vcr, dvd, cable, etc). Anyway the weight was way over the 100 pound limit and the two of the middle supports started to bend under the weight.

ahh I see. I'm not really looking for furniture there, just other things like tumblers, mugs, curtains, everyday servingware, etc.

We have a papertowel holder and a napkin holder, the wife is always buying candle holders and some small kitchen stuff, potato peeler, all seems to work out fine.

Re: IKEA

As far as furniture goes I read a tip. This is ONLY if you will not have to take the furniture apart agaiN.

When you are putting the furniture together put clear nail polis on the screws and screw them in. Supposedly makes the piece much sturdier.

I'm a big fan of Ikea furniture, I had some Ikea Sofas and they lasted us 7 years...thats a pretty good track record. Also, living in the UK we have small houses so their Pax wardrobes are fantastic storage solutions for us. We have one in our dining room and we have bought another 2 for our bedroom (they have yet to be put together, but thats another story) You do get what you pay for, but a lot of their stuff is pretty sturdy.

Re: IKEA

This is just my opinion, but after buying an entire apartment worth of Ikea stuff a few years ago, I determined it was mostly cr@p. Most of the furniture is a PITA to assemble, doesnt hold up very well, you have to ALWAYS buy extra hardware because Ikea NEVER includes all the peices its supposed to come with, the houseware items are very basic and are fine for short term, but expect to replace them within a year or two.

It suited my purposes back then....I didnt have much money to spend and just needed some basic things. But in the end it cost me double because I had to go out and re-purchase most of what i got because stuff constantly broke. For example....we got 4 kitchen chairs from Ikea. 2 months later my husband sat down on one of them and it just broke beneath him. He's not heavy either. 4 days after that, a friend came over...she weighs less than 140 lbs. and another chair broke! We had to go back and purchase 2 more chairs Chat Icon The cost of buying the 2 chairs twice is what it would have cost to just buy 2 good-quality chairs once.

Personally, I'd stay away from ikea. But again, thats JMO.

IMO, it's hit or miss there.

I personally would not buy anything like a sofa or other pieces of substantial furniture there.

but I love the downstairs area with all the housewares!

I think that is key.... don't get the cheapest stuff they make.... stick to the slightly more expensive, and their popular items, becuase they are tried and true... lack tables/shelves, kiplin sofa, pax wardrobes.... all reliable....

Re: IKEA

I bought a lot of glasses from Ikea - wine and water - they are so cheap and when we have parties, I just whip them out and don't worry about breakage

Overall, their accessories are great - their furniture is good, but you get what you pay for. it really helps to put it together carefully and tightly

Their furniture is not built to last but it's cheap and looks pretty good for a while. I like their interior decorating items in the marketplace (rugs, pillows, art, candles, kitchen supplies, etc.).

Re: IKEA

We've gotten a bunch of stuff from them: A sofa, a table and chairs, a desk, a TV cart and our entire starter bedroom set, among other things. Everything has held up great. We love Ikea!!
