That would be a deal breaker for me, and I would put my kids in childcare to be honest. This is beyond dangerous.

Any ideas of how to broach the subject in a non-confrontational way? I know the risks, but really want to talk to them and hope that they will be receptive to my feelings.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that either. It's definitely a tricky situation since they are doing you a huge favor. I would probably buy them an alarm and explain just how anxious the situation makes you, mention the drownings last week. I would have DH bring it up since it's his parents. Hopefully they would put up a safety fence but if not I would look into the cost and explore other options.

Same here.
I would be honest with them and say just for your peace of mind you would like them to have some sort of alarm/gate/fence set up. If they or your husband gets mad then just say well I rather you be mad and know that the kids are safe then not say anything and have something happen. With subjects like this you can worry about who's going to get mad or offended.

There is an alarm called the Poolguard Prgrm 2. It's $184 and rated extremely well. Can you guys just buy it and give it to them and et them know it will give you peace of mind.
