If you're having a planned c-section..
How many days in advance are you scheduled for it?
My dr. wants to schedule it for a week before the due date. This is my 2nd, first was failed induction resulting in c-section. The dr. said most OBs don't do vbacs anymore including her so I don't have alot of choice here.

My Dr was originally willing to let me try VBAC but now he is saying that the baby is so big that he does not think it is a good idea   .... SO I am scheduled to have my c section tuesday which is a week before my due date!
Same thing happened to me the first time around after 26 hours of labor, I had to have a c section.

We were told that the earliest they can schedule a c/s is 39 weeks. That is when mine is for.

I had the same exact situation as you.
My first ended up in a c/s due to a failed induction.
So my 2nd was a scheduled c/s at 39w.
This one will also be a scheduled c/s at 39w.
My doctor said I was not a good candidate for a vbac.

I just wanted to tell you that it is not true that most OB's don't do Vbacs. I am not saying to go for one, but if it is something you are interested in, there are quite a few OB's and Midwives that are supportive of the Vbac option.

when I was pregnant this fall my OBGYN was going to do a C/S at 37 or 38 weeks. But she was going to do an amnio few days before to make sure baby's lungs were matured.

My due date is the 23rd of March. My doctor scheduled the c-section for the 19th of March, so 4 days ahead of time.
He said that the hospital won't allow it any more then 7 days before your due date.

Thanks! I should probably find other options but I'm also partially scared of going through a vbac.
The dr. said there's only 1 dr. in my area that does vbac and he caters to the Jewish community where multiple c-sections aren't recommended. :(

Where are you located?
I live in Brooklyn, and there are a lot of OB's and midwives that cater the Jewish community here, but they won't turn away people who are not of the Jewish faith.
My suggestion, if you even have a twinge of wanting to go for a v-bac, is to do some research, you can start out on the ICAN website. Look into some doctors and midwives in the area that are supportive of the option and go from there. You might find that you want to stick with the c-section, but don't feel like you are being forced into one because you don't have a choice.

My doctor said he will schedule my 2nd c-section no earlier than 39 weeks unless there is a medical emergency.

katiebug, I'm not near Brooklyn unfortunately but should probably do some digging about my options. At this point I'm not sure what's more scary, another c-section or vbac.

Just because it was a failed induction doesn't mean you can't have a vaginal birth. There are so many odds against inductions, why many result in c-sections. Just laying on your back for that long while laboring puts you at greater risk for a c-section.
Please don't think that I am trying to convince you of having a v-bac, it is just OB's annoy me, because they put a lot of fear into their patients, and their reasons for repeat c-sections don't have any real foundation to back it up.
I had a c-section and I will tell you what the OB that delivered my DS told me. I asked him if I should go for a Vbac for my next child, He said "Every birth is different, every baby is different. You have no idea how the baby is going to be positioned, how you will progress, etc." He told me to try for the Vbac, as all I can do is try. Of course I know that my medical background is totally different then yours. But what he said brought me comfort.

I would think that Hackensack would have more Drs that were willing to perform vbacs. I'm delivering at Englewood and my practice performs them.

39w is standard unless you had a prior classical (then it's 38w due to higher risk of uterine rupture). At 39w (most) hospitals will not require an amnio to confirm lung maturation as they do prior to 39w.
