I was told by more than one source that its more rare than common for water to break BEFORE you get to the hospital. Anywhere from 11-15% of women have it happen on their own.

while I've also heard it's uncommon, both my mom and my SIL had their water break IN BED!
so, we already put a vinyl liner under our mattress pad... just in case!

My water broke at 4:45 am right after i came back from the bathroom. it came out a little at a time for a few hours.

I could go at a moment's notice and as I sit here in DH's spot on the "coveted couch, I am reminded that it came with an extended warranty on just about every bodily fluid and function possible. IM COVERED!!!!! Gotta love JC Penney.

My broke at 4:30am after I went to the bathroom and it wasn't like a huge gush it just felt like at first I was peeing my pants and then i ran back to the bathroom and then it gushed out. Never even went into labor or had any contractions had a c-section DS was breech!

Considering my SIL's broke in their bed- I slept on a mountain of doggy Wee-Wee pads from 37 weeks on.
I also sat on Wee-Wee pads in the car.
Thankfully, my water was broken by the nurse in the hospital- so I only ruined their bedding.

My water broke while I was in the hospital, about 11 hours after induction started. It broke on its own.

1st PG it broke as I got out of bed at 2AM to go to the bathroom --- didnt ruin anything.
2nd PG it broke around 9AM I was on the couch, heard and felt a small little pop, stood up and started leaking ( but not a HUGE gush or anything) Again, wet myself but didnt ruin anything.

Yeah I was debating putting something down on the bed, but sleeping is not comfy as it is so I think I'll take my chances without the plastic sheets!! It seems like even if it does happen it's not gushing (and I'm totally jinxing myself, now my water will break in bed and ruin my matterss ).

Mine didn't break until after DS was born!
I was induced and apparently your water just has to break a tiny bit for DC to be born, mine gushed out AFTER he was born.
How weird isthat?!?

Mine broke at 4:30AM on the way to the bathroom. I THOUGHT I'd peed in my jammies
I went to work........only when my mucus plug started to come out did I realize I was in labor!
So an FYI that APPARANTLY your water can come out BEFORE your mucus plug does!!! I was waiting for that to happen.......hence not realizing my water broke in the AM

I was just lying on the couch about a week before my due date. I actually wasn't quite sure if my water had broken, because it wasn't the gush most people imagine.

Mine broke in the morning (seems to happen a lot) and it was a little trickle....I didnt' even realize it had happened until I went to the hospital and they told me the baby was ready!

Didn't with DD, with DS it broke at 1:30 am in bed and it was a big nasty GUSH and kept gushing up until delivery.

At first I thought it was a discharge/leak (sorry, TMI)..Went to the bathroom washed up.
Went downstairs had breakfast, sat on the couch..Got up and as I'm putting dishes in the dishwasher, I feel water literally dripping down my legs (again..sorry TMI).
I guess you can say it happened in my kitchen and all the way to the hospital.

Not uncommon. Your water did break obviously otherwise he would have been born in a sack but his head was probably low enough to be used like a plug to keep the water in. I was recently baptized by aminotic fluid due to this phenomenon!
