If your kitchen opens up into the living room...

did you paint the rooms the same color? We just found out we got the house and I'm already worrying about decorating. Chat Icon

The eat-in kitchen opens up to the living room. If we painted the rooms two colors, I'd have no idea how to separate the colors. If you have a similar floor plan, what did you do? What colors did you use? If you have any pics, that would be great.

Also, possibly stupid question. If the walls are white, do you still need to prime them before painting?

We painted the kitchen the same as our living room. There wasn't too much wall space to paint the kitchen anyway since we're doing a tile backsplash and got 42" cabinets so we figured we'd just paint it the same.

No, you don't need to prime if your walls are white. Every single room in our house was white and we painted right over them (no primer).

We have one wall that runs along the whole back of the house, kitchen to den, a darker green and the adjacent wall is a lighter green.

Our LR, DR & Kitchen are all open to each other and have no wall separation at all, so we painted all one color. It's BM-Carlisle Cream.

Our living/dining/kitchen open up and we used BM Guest House for it all, but added in a Merlot wall as an accent. Pretty sure I have pics in my album.

Congrats on finding the house!

Our kitchen, living room and dining room are all open. We plan on making it all one color.

The living room and main halls are the same color. I painted the bottom of the chair rail the same color and the top another to break it up. Pics are in my album.

Ours opens up into the LR so we would most likely have to do one color.

Our kitchen, dining and living room are open to each other. We painted the kitchen and dining a burgany color and the living room/ hallway a golden color.

We have a beam that seperates the rooms but they are both green - the kitchen a light green (Behr Celery Ice) and the living room a darker green (Behr Rejuvination).

No. I have green in my kitchen and a rich beige in my LR. I also wanted an accent wall so I painted the wall that runs along both rooms a deep red. All of the colors complement each other and it doesn't look like a fun house (which is what I was afraid of!) I have to take pics and then I'll post them.
