At what age or milestone did you transition out and to what? DS is only 16 mos but bedtime is such an ordeal I am counting the days until he can go to a bed. He sleeps perfect on my bed, guest bed etc but if course I have to stay nearby (which Im sure plays in him sleeping better, too)

DS#1 hated the crib and learned at 13 months how to get out of it and would try to climb into bed with us. I wanted to use his crib for DS#2 and didn't want to switch right before the baby came home so we put him in a full size at 18 months. DS#1 was 2 when DS#2 was born.

We got a full size so there was room to lie down next tom him to read a story or comfort him if he had a bad dream, etc. Once we moved him in the full size bed he loved it.

DS#2 we put him in a toddler bed at 16 months then a full size at 2.

DS2 was climbing out at 18mo so for his safety, we put him in a toddler bed. It took a few nights for him to get used to it, but he does great in it (he will be 2 tomorrow).

I feel your pain. My 13 month old hates his crib too. He sleeps like a dream when I put him in the guest bed. In the crib he wakes up every hour. So frustrating. I am thinking of converting his crib soon but I'm not sure if that is crazy!

ETA- at daycare they are switching him to the next room around 16 months and he will sleep in a cot there so that's why I'm thinking I might do it soon too.

15 months we moved DS to a full size bed with rails as he was climbing right out of the crib

you can put him in a bed now if you want too. i don't see any reason to wait just get guard rails if its a full/twin size bed or just get the toddler. it will probably take a few nights for them to get used to it but i think its fine to start now.

We put DD on a full sized bed on the floor at 15 months. She was not sleeping in the crib at all and it was a nightmare. We then at 2.5 moved her to the mattress plus box spring on the floor and then at 3 she went into the bed with frame and guard rails.

Thanks Ladies! My mother thinks I'm nuts for considering a bed so young, but I don't know what else to do. I was thinking the same thing, if I can lie with him then at least I can get some rest. I know that's against what all the books say but I'm at the pt where I say screw the books! I'ma FTWM and I need to sleep at some point!! LoL. Honestly, though, I do feel like DS is SO tiny still and he's only just started walking. Those who switched to a bed early, was DC walking well? He also loves to play in his dresser drawers, etc so I imagine I'm going to have to get that all locked up in case he climbs out! Oh boy....

At 10 months and 12 months, both kids were in beds. They hated the crib, it was crazy how happy they were in beds.

Get him a toddler bed. DD was in a toddler bed at 18 months and my parents said I was in one at one year.

Both of my kids hated the crib. We co-slept because it was the only way to get sleep. Both of their cribs converted to full size beds. We transitioned DS1 to his big boy bed at 2y3m. It was a smooth transition and we should have done it earlier. DS2 slept in a swing for almost a year and then moved into our bed. We waited longer to transition him to a big boy bed because he had his tonsils and adenoids out at 2.5 and I knew he'd need to sleep with us during recovery. We transitioned him to a big boy bed about 3 weeks after his surgery. It was a tougher transition and took a few weeks before he STTN in his bed.

DS hated his crib, we transitioned to bed when we moved , he was 22 months, tbh he didn't love his own bed either, he just wants to sleep w us lol
