THANKS!

Loey will be 9 months old in 10 days and I feel so behind in what he's eating because of the choking issue.

We brought it up with his new ped and are going to discuss it at his next appointment, but just curious what your little ones are eating!

haha john is awesome!

we weren't there for that reason... we were there about the coxsackie and the ped. said he wanted some time to think about it more because it doesn't seem like your average case of gagging on textured foods - KWIM?

You know Hayley, by 8 months old DS was eating steak, fries and escargot with a fork and knife.

He is still so young. I know it's scary but I bet he will grow out of it. He may just not like the texture of certain foods. I am glad your new ped really seems to want to help! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

thanks girlie!

the ped. is thinking that he might have some type of reflux actually... and he could be choking on food/liquid that comes back up....

because he has choked on completely smooth foods like sweet potato (that i've put through a mesh strainer so i know there's no chunks) and even TINY things like pastina... KWIM?

yeah Lin! really weird/interesting right?

so hopefully we'll figure out something at his appointment. it's later this month...

he doesn't think it's a texture thing because he doesn't choke on the first bite... it's always after a few bites. and he's not gagging... which might make you think it's kind of a texture issue. KWIM?

and we've given him bigger things that he hasn't choked on... like puffs, tiny pieces of chicken, etc.

but then randomly he WILL choke on things... so i have no clue what's going on!

DS chokes on smooth things occasionally as well - we're still just doing stage 2 foods and cereal. We tried yogurt and it didn't settle well in his belly.

We started at 4 months but, we're still just doing baby food - DS isn't ready for table food - except he loves to play with Cheerios and fling them all over the floor!

Re: If you started solids at 6 months, what is your 8-9 month old eating?

Aidan has a severe gag issue as you may know. On occasion he has choked. At is 10 month visit late last month the dr asked if he was eating Cheerios yet. I just laughed...He was still gagging on puffs that were broken in half. Just with in the last 4-5 days, he has been eating Cheerios. Started with half pieces, now he can do whole ones. Scares the cr@p out of me but he has only gagged once. He has gotten pieces of watermelon, nectarine, home fries...He was even sucking on a pretzel rod yesterday and getting off little pieces and doing fine...I just bought him french toast sticks yesterday and hope to try them today...I am hoping that as he has got older that something has matured and he is able to eat more without gagging...He does have reflux and I think a lot of the gagging problems to stem from that. He was gagging from day one in the hospital...Hopefully with time Loey will be able to eat anything. I am still very cautious with what I am giving him and I sit right next to him...

DD will be 8 mths tomorrow. She has no choking or gagging issues, but does have a mom who is petrified of choking, so I havent rushed anything. She eats pureed babyfood and greek yogurt mostly. Within the past week I introduced cottage cheese and cream cheese in tiny portions. I also gave her broken up puffs for the first time monday, and a few whole puffs yesterday. she did great with them, but I am still taking it slow, even if only for my own comfort.

would they do a swallow study on a baby? How do they determine if it's reflux or a swallowing disorder?
