If you purchased a foreclosure....
...did you feel threatened by it?
My dad was going to buy a foreclosure once and the SBTX owner left a bullet for the bank president saying "this is for you"
and I just drove by a potential house which is in foreclosure and there is threatening graffiti on it...
It worries me to put my family in a situation of a bitter previous owner.
Thoughts??

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
that is scary! down south in florida where we are we saw a few forclosures when we were looking but nothing like you here about in NY - the owners were long gone and nothing was ever destroyed intentionally...that is crazy!

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
I sell them
I plan on buying one (or more)
I look at different ones every day- I have never seen anything like a bullet
None of our listings would ever been shown with graffti on the outside- and that wouldn't fly with any of the neighbors where our houses are
They are in nice areas- today I am in a new development in coram-
Sure some are messy and need work...but you can get a great house for a good price and make it your own
Sometimes it makes me sad- like pencil marks on the wall showing kids height but this is the reality of the market now...
Eta- the owners are normally long gone here too...it takes months to put the house on the market in most cases...my last one was vacant for 18 months- by then the old owner has moved on and I have heard from the neighbors they are doing well!

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
We bought one and have had no problems. The house was vacant for a while and I believe it was also in contract before us, but that fell through. It was in decent shape for a foreclosure- nothing was intentionally destroyed or damaged.

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
First off, OMG! That bullet thing is crazy!
I think so many more home are in foreclosure now that buying one is much more common. I saw a crazy statistic the other day on just how many homes on LI are in foreclosure (can't remember the exact number but I remember being floored by it).
I agree with the other poster that said that foreclosures take a long time so by the time it is up for sale the "owners" are long gone.
I think it's def a way to go....you can get a good house and a great price that way too. Good Luck!

pet smells are normal...9 times out of 10 you have to ripped the flooring up in these houses
the one I am showing tomorrow is coram needs the flooring and walls fixed (and the kitchen) not b/c they were trashed on purpose but I think the people just stopped caring
It's only really bad when squatters get in- I was in one in queens that they ripped the walls apart to take the pipes- that one was scary- but what do you expect for $110k.....

I have to agree that most of the time the old owners are long gone.

it was not simple pet smells. she smeared the dog poop on walls - everywhere. she was extremely angry. my neighbors had to wrip out walls and tons of flooring.

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
That's gross...but there isn't 1 foreclosure I have seen that I wouldn't rip out the flooring (mostly carpet) and the sheet rock
The one I am working on now- has spit balls on the master bath walls...the size of soft balls
And gum on the laminate flooring
And this is one of the better ones I have been in

Re: If you purchased a foreclosure....
Our current home was going into foreclosure, we bought it as a 'short sale.' We've been just fine.
