If you have relocated....

Did you move or have a job first?

I want to move on a date already set forth, but the chances of me having a job by then is slim. I can manage financially without one...but is it foolish to leave a job without having one in the new city?

I had a job first.

I am not really a risk taker, so I would never move anywhere without a job, or without something very serious in the pipeline.

I just moved. I didn't have a job, but I had resumes out. About 3 weeks later I landed an office job. During the 3 weeks temporarily, I worked in retail to make ends meet.

i HAD A JOB BEFORE i MOVED...I came down to NC and interviewed for it about a month before I moved down....

I think it's a personal decision. We are moving to Florida next month. I have been looking for a guidance counselor position for months. I will hopefully have a job by Friday when I attend another Teacher Job Fair down there. Regardless, we are moving there, even if I have to do something else until I can land a guidance position.

We just moved to FL in May. We both didn't have jobs when we moved, but started sending out resumes a month before we knew we would be down here.

I got an email one week after we moved here for a position in a college and ended up getting that job.... started 2 weeks ago.

DH had several interviews and recently got a job offer.

We made sure we had 3-4 months of $$ to live off without touching our savings... in case we didn't have jobs for a few months.

We've just moved. DH had a job, I still don't have a job (although I'm a consultant too and have a pretty steady income coming in with that).

I moved first. It took me a while to find a job and I was miserable and freaking out that I made the wrong decision. But I did eventually find a job (4 months later) and I had enough in my savings to live off of until then.

I haven't relocated, but I would without a job. that's what our nest egg is for. it is very challenging to get a job somewhere that you don't live. I know people who have, but it's not always easy.

DH is able to telecommute through his old job in NY, and I landed a teaching position about 4 months before we got here.

I'm ok going without a job...my SO has a job so financially we will be fine. I think I will be anxious and nervous but don't want to delay my move until I find a job. Worst case Im thinking I can temp until something comes up.

I just don't want to be totally irresponsible. Like some of you said...I think it will be easier to search once Im there.
