If you had a big 1st b-day party for DC...

...will you have another big one for the 2nd and 3rd etc?

I loooove party planning and throwing parties in general, but they can get $$. DH doesn't think we should have a big party for DD's 2nd b-day because then she'll have to have one for her third and then 4th and then she'll come to expect them...

Thoughs??

Re: If you had a big 1st b-day party for DC...

My friend had a big one for her DD's 1st, but then made the 2nd one more with her little friends - it made sense to me. 1st birthday is not for the child.... the rest of them usually are and should be more for their little friends. Unless they have 100 friends, I would think it would be smaller for them - they get overwhelmed easily otherwise, and it's not fun for them.....

Re: If you had a big 1st b-day party for DC...

Honestly-- after Sasha's party today, it was great. But the next bday won't be as big. I think we won't have all the extended family, etc., and it will be more kid focused. So, less family more friends/kids. Also, our food was expensive because I wanted something all the kids could eat (I did bagels, fruit, cheese, cold cuts). Next year pizza will be fully acceptable.

And I really didn't think about all the gifts from a large party.. I have no idea what to do with everything. She got so much stuff!!!

We did a pretty big party for DS's 1st bday and toned it down for his 2nd. We did both at our house, invited about 10-15 less people for his 2nd. Personally, I love parties....planning and having them....nothing better than good friends, family, and food.

We had a HUGE 1st birthday party for DD and her next HUGE party will be when she is 5 years old. In between she will get very nice and chic parties but not HUGE. Huge parties will be done every 4 or 5 years.

She'll have a big party for Sweet 16, but until then, its going to be small. Once she goes to school and starts to make friends, we'll think of having a party at a kids place or something like that.

We did a big 100 person party for DS's 1st, but it's been kids house parties since. We also take our immediate family (parents and siblings) out to eat and for cake each year.

Re: If you had a big 1st b-day party for DC...

I did a HUGE no expense barred 1st bday for DS#1 and for his 2nd bday we did a kids party at Bounce U

Now for his 3rd bday we might have a "cake at the house with the fam" since I am throwing a BIG party for DS#2 the month before

What I am tryin to say is that just as he is getting to understand the BIG parties I am going to have to cut back and do kids parties from now on....under their Communios = BIG PARTIES

Re: If you had a big 1st b-day party for DC...

I don't know - I think it depends on why it's so big -

Is it family like a bunch of 'old' aunts/ uncles people you hardly see but are 'obligated' to invite to big events - if that's the case, so unnecessary IMO -

If it's all of your friends/close family and their kids - cousins, friends etc - Then how to do you really scale it down?

We had a large bday party for DS's bday (and are doing the same for DD next month). The second bday (and future bdays for both children) was a kid's party and then we had a family party at the house for our immediate families and some close other family members.

We had a HUGE bash for DS first.

For his 2nd , we had a bowling party with like 5 kids and then a small family party at my house with grandparents and his aunts and uncles.

This is going to be his big bday party.

After that it is cake in the house until he is big enough to have friends at burger king and stuff.
