If Social Media was banned....

If Social Media was banned (Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, etc)... would you be OK with that?

We'd still have the Internet, email, forums like LIF, etc. Essentially, the Internet of 10 years ago.

I would be totally fine with having all of the tools of the Internet (hotel reservations, Amazon, information, etc), without the photos of peoples' food, people spewing all sorts of things on Twitter, etc.

Yes, I would be ok. Although I love social media. & I would miss how easy it is to chat with family and share photos to them halfway across the world.. I guess I would just start an email group?

I always say social media is the downfall of our society.
It only causes issues- young girl's trying to be all sexy for their stupid Instagram pics, fake faces in pictures that are all filtered and actually laughable, people spewing their opinions on everything (who cares!), show offs, cyber bullies, fakes, phonies, look at ME, look at ME, selfies, the endless selfies, not enjoying life in the moment because you are too busy taking a picture to post so that EVERYONE knows that you are on vacation or at the beach or out to dinner. The whole mentality of, it didn't happen if it's not posted on social media to make everyone else jealous, pictures of your shytty dinner, pictures of your shittty drink, pictures of your shittty flowers. And let's not forget, pictures of your nasty ass feet.

The only social media I use is FB. I enjoy it and might miss it for a while but I'd get over it quickly and be just fine without

I think there is as much good as bad in social media so while I would certainly survive, I would be sad about losing the positives.

I see benefits all the time such as connecting people to those in need. My community comes together with donations any time we are asked, people have support and connections to others who share the same health issues, just last week the breakthrough in identifying the ALS gene was attributed to the ice bucket challenge. Obviously the personal connections to family and friends is also a plus to me.

I think people who get up in arms over social media must know a ton of assholes and keep them in their lives for some reason. You can block , unfriend or unfollow (but stay friends) with your people without removing them on most platforms.

I enjoy it and love seeing photos and stuff of people I know. Maybe I'm not into xyz but they are, and that's cool. I like seeing where people go and whatever they share.

I've found it to be a great resource in my community, too.

It's not supposed to make u angry or hate everyone. If you are, you're doing it wrong (or need to get rid of people lol)

Facebook doesn't make me angry and I hate no one. I just miss the days that staying in touch meant a phone call and knowing what someone's kids look like means you actually see them. I'm just old fashioned like that.

Totally considering I don't have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Snapchat I only use for the funny pics with my dds.

I like facebook to see what friends/family are up to. Hate all the negative posts though.

I started an Instagram account (OK for my cat) and he has over 6,000 followers. I have met really nice other "cat ladies" on there. So I would miss that.

I personally don't use social media very much so theoretically I really don't care if it were to disappear one day being that I don't get any personal benefit from it anyway. I could do without all the attention whoring and ridiculous d!ck-face selfes that comes with social media and I really don't care about anyone's life in so much detail that I need to know how many squats they did at the gym lol...

However, that being said, no I would not want social media being banned. I don't want the government having that much power and suppressing free speech as much as I think social media is useless most of the time. If you had said "never invented" to begin with I would have agreed, but I don't agree with banning it once it's already in existence.

Well.......

DH uses twitter for checking on trades (or something sports related like that) and I get annoyed when he checks it during dinner. I mentioned to my coworkers that DH is on tinder all the time during dinner and it drives me nuts. Yes, I confused the 2.

So, I would likely not only be fine, but better off.

FB is about to kick me out because they want to have a copy of my ID to verify my name. Lol. Like that's going to happen. It happened to a friend of mine also last winter. I guess I will deal without FB becaue the need to get over themselves. I am not giving a copy of my ID to FB. Unreal!
