IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
I am posting to ask a question about my sister...I hope you girls don't mind.
She had her DS 3 1/2 years ago. A little while after she found out that some placenta was left inside of her and she had to have a dnc.
Fast forward to now. She has been trying to get pregnant for 15 months with no luck (with her ds it happened on the first try). She doesn't have IF coverage until January so she has paid OOP for to IUIs the first one was a bfn and the second she will find out this week.
I was thinking back to her dnc...could this be playing a role in her IF?
Thanks girls for your help!

Re: IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
My d&c played a role bc Dr.Pilliterri ruined my lining. It's a rare but known complication. I'm assuming she's been monitored for her IUIs though so I'm sure they would know if she had a lining issue. Sorry if this wasn't much help!

Re: IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
I have a 3 year ds that I had no issues conceiving. Then I had a mc and d&c in aug 2011 ( no issues conceiving then either). I have not been able to get pregnant again since my d&c. I am convinced the d&c caused a problem but I am seeing a RE and they say everything is fine!

I would assume that it was just Secondary IF... Like PC said, if the RE hasnt mentioned a lining issue it would be hard to associate the problems with a botched D&C.

I had 2 D&Cs and it was not a factor in my IF. While it can be a factor but people have them all the time with no IF issues.

Re: IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
Thank you for your responses I just feel so sad for her and I am always to try to think of "why"? No one has mentioned anything to her so I don't think I will say anything and just hope her second IUI is a BFP!
Thank you again and surrogate to everyone!

Re: IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
I agree with the secondary IF issue. What does her RE say? Is she being tested appropriately? Usually the theory is that you're more fertile after a D&C because your uterus and lining are now nice and clean. I've had 4 D&Cs (and a lap) and I don't attribute my IF issues or poor lining during my cycles to those. Actually, Dr. Pillitteri did two out of the 4 D&Cs, correcting one by Dr. Zapantis.
I Dr. Pillitteri and am even more thankful that he's my Ob after a scary couple of weeks of PTL and delivering at 33 weeks.

Re: IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
I had the same issue. Got pregnant twice, once ended in miscarriage the second resulted in DS. After DS I had placenta left in me, had D&C, and now I am on cycle 16, and first IUI. I am convinced it has something to do with it, but I am also dealing with MF IF this time around. He has low morphology.

IF after a DNC...crashing with a question for my sister
After my first loss at 14 weeks I had an emergency D&C...needless to say I was butchered. My uterus was left with 2 masses of fetal tissue and an unbelievable amout of scar tissue which resulted in me having a second D&C the following month. My 9 IUI's after that didnt work but my 1st and 3rd IVF did...
AFTER I had my DS, (with many complaications) they found that my uterus had many adhesions so I had to go in for a Lysis of Adhesion Surgery before my 2nd IVF cycle. My 2nd didnt work but my 3rd did...
IMO, I certanly think that if the D&C wasnt preformed correctly, sloppy or completely the scar tissue can be preventing her from getting pregnant...if she has fibroids that can be a major issue in implatnation and she certainly can adhesions....I would tell her to as her RE NOT AN OB/GYN !!!! to do a water sono and mabye an HSG to check it out before she wastes anymore time and money on IUI's...
I stress the RE and NOT AN OB/GYN...OB/GYNs should NOT be monitoring/preforming IUI's...its a waste of time for most although it works on some...IMO (of, course)
Good Luck to your sister xoxo
