i want to kill Mia.

me and dh are so upset with her.
she refuses to go potty on the pad. i just dont understand.

her fave place to go is ON OUR BED.
i was laying down today and literally rolled into crap. all over my arm.
last night she peed right in front of us on the bed.

i was trying to get around crate training, because she will scream (we tried it when she was at my moms house) and i dont want to annoy my neighbors.

but this is getting ridiculous.

where besides petco did you get your crate?????

Drs Foster & Smith online or PPE online.

There is also a pretty decent store on Metropolitan Blvd in Forest Hills called Wagging Tails. I like them b/c their prices are competitive and they give 10% to local rescue orgs.

Re: i want to kill Mia.

ok , ill probably end up at petco since its closer.

i went to Target but they didnt have any.

i dont get this dog. seriously. she'll go outside, only if we're gone teh whole day and she comes with me. likle for example she comes with me on wednesdays & fridays and is great with going outside.

but when i randomly walk her, nothing.

i give her treats when she goes on the pads, you'd think she'd be happy. ive done the whole "badf potty", put it on the pad "good potty" thing, nothing.
we wake up, i put her on the pad. she doesnt go. i figure she doesnt need to. she follows me in the living room and pees on the floor.

Re: i want to kill Mia.

Sounds like her previous owner did a number on herChat Icon

I am sorry it is taking so long for her to get the hang of it. Peeing & pooping on the bed def sounds like a cry for attention to me. Had the previous owner given you any indication of separation or attention issues?

I hate when they lie! Yeah she definitely sounds like she has attachment issues. Have you asked the vet if there is anything to do? I am wondering if she *knows* you saved her, and feels like she has to be constantly with you to be safe?

Re: i want to kill Mia.

She probably has a bit of separation anxiety. This just takes time and ALOT of patience. I understand what you are going through. Our rottie drove us nuts in the begining.

Try using the crate for very short intervals and leave the crate open when you are home so she can get used to it as a safe place. Maybe put a treat or two to lure her in, just don't lock her in. Lt her go in on her own free will.

As time goes on and she sees that you come back and don't forget about her it will get better. Also never use it for punishment.

My friend has a puggle that would lose him mind being inthe crate. Even if he was just walked he would spaz out and go to the bathroom. Poor thing was petrified. But now he is perfectly fine with his crate.

Good luck!

Re: i want to kill Mia.

i really like the dog whisperer and he said that some dogs have trouble going on the wee wee pad b/c it's not what they know by instinct-- they know, naturally, to go outside so some dogs have problems with that.

maybe just try crate training the pup and training her to go outside like most dogs... that's what we did with char and she had it down pat in a week.

HTH Chat Icon

ETA: Char cried too in the crate- but we would shake a coffee can of coins at her and she immediately stopped-- then, we continued to use that method for her bad behavior and it worked great.

I would definately lock her out of the bedroom at this point to force to her go elsewhere.

Re: i want to kill Mia.

i know its frustrating - but you have other dogs and experience so you should know you just have to be persistent. don't assume that she doesn't have to go in the morning - make her stay there until she does.

i'm surprised at her going in the bed - it almost sounds like spiteful behaviour. especially if she is sleeping in the bed too - knowing that dogs usually won't go where they sleep.

good luck Chat Icon

Re: i want to kill Mia.

I don't have a dog, but it sounds like she may be trying to "get back at you" for leaving her home by herself.

My sister went through this with her cat. The cat was fine if they were just gone at work for the day. But if they went away for the weekend and had my mom coming to feed her, they'd come home to a huge pile of poop all over their oriental rug.

Maybe I should do the same thing when DH goes away on business Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: i want to kill Mia.

Peanut used to go on our bed too! Maybe it's a Pom thing?

She was completely wee wee pad trained and yet would still pee or poop on the bed!

We don't know what started it and we just FIRMLY reprimanded her when she did it. And then it passed and she NEVER goes on the bed.

I'd say she started doing it at like 5 months and it stopped within 2 months. But she also didn't do it all the time. We have a hunch that she might have been just too hyper/too much energy and mad at us for going to bed so early.

Re: i want to kill Mia.

thanks guys.

i know housebreaking is tough as ive done it before....

its just the going on the bed that annoys and confuses me.

i wishi knew why so that we could know the proper way to correct the behaviour.
at first i thought it was a spite thing, like cats, but now i dont think so.]

i got a new crate for her last night. she slept the whole night in it. crying. i took her out about 5-6am (but i only went to bed after 1am, so she wasnt in there THAT long)
but its a start. i let her then sleep in bed with me. no potty in the bed thank god.

i could tell she had to go potty a bit ago and and i put her on the pad and she went and i gave her praise and treats as normal.

she even took a nap in the crate on her own!!! (with the door open)

so i have hope. thanks all!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: i want to kill Mia.

Glad to hear there is improvement...she's probably just way out of sorts. We had some problems with Misty when we took her too.

I think it's a case of partly the previous owners not divulging all info and partly the dog being discombobulated about being totally thrown into a new situations.

Keep up the good work, Jess!

Re: i want to kill Mia.

thanks. im bringing her to vet today for second round of shots and i will ask him.

she's using the pad more, BUT just 15 mins ago she walked right over to the laundry pile and peed on it.

i know poms are hard to train, so im just trying to be very patient.

Re: i want to kill Mia.

We got her at 11 weeks. And I'd say she'd use pads only without accidents by 5 or 6 months.

At first we only let her in 1 room of the house (lasted about a month) and it had a pad. We slowly expanded her area and she learned to go back to her pad to go potty.

But there is still one place (she will be 3 next week) where we can't let her go because she will pee...the bathroom mat! We have replaced it so many times and I just don't know what it is. So now we just make sure to keep the bathroom door closed.

Pom's are so hard headed! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm here for you if you need any support or help.

ETA: crate training is a great idea and I wish we did it.
