I want to give peanut butter

But I don't know how.

Dd is 20mos. I have two cousins that have deathly peanut allergies although no one else in my family does (they're 13 and 10yo).

I am pretty sure she had almond milk once in mashed potatoes that my brother made but didn't see if she actually ate any.

How do I do it? I am so scared!

DS was 15 months. I put some on a piece of bread and sat at the table with him, my phone and a bottle of Benadryl next to me. He was fine. My dad developed an allergy later in life and I work in an elementary school with several children with allergies, so I was concerned. That's as prepared as I could've been.

Just try it. Unfortunately a reaction may not happen right away or the first few times they have it. My son had PB 3 times before he had a reaction to it...

I did it at a year and did the three day exposure.

Small smear on bread which I increased over the three days. We have no peanut allergies in either of our families but I still had the benedryl within arms reach. It's nerve wracking but ultimately it needs to be done. Now it's my DS' staple food.

I gave DD peanut butter at 21 months. I was so paranoid but I felt weird to keep waiting on it. I wanted to give her almond cake for her 2nd birthday so I figured try it now. we knew she wasnt deathly allergic because shes been around peanut oil in restaurants and eaten french fries and stuff. So we gave it to her early in the day when we could monitor how she was (not before bed) and made sure we were free to sit in the er if necessary LOL. But she was fine! She eats peanut butter like every other day now lol

i gave it to my older son when he was a little over 2... gave him some licks off of a spoon

Spread some PB on bread, or give a snack with PB. I just did it on a weekend when I would be around to make sure there was no reaction. Nothing you can really do besides give it them and wait and see!

Our ped said to just take a small amount and feed it to DS. Basically put it in his mouth and watch him. He has so far been completely uninterested in trying it, though.

I know this is a silly question, but what kind of a reaction should you watch out for if the child is not verbal yet and cannot tell you that their throat hurts/ can't breathe, etc?

I did it at my parents house... my mom was a nurse and always calm/collected in emergency situations, so if anything happened, I wanted her there. we sat down to have lunch after her nap - pb&j sandwiches for all! dd was totally fine. she was about 17 months.

I still haven't done it and DS is 28 months. I really need to just bite the bullet!

Pbj 3 days in a row at 15 mo. Once was before a ped apt. The other 2 we watched them carefully for any signs.

DS was 15 months - he took one of my peanut utter crackers! Thankfully he is not allergic
