I want CAC!

I've always wanted CAC for our home but, of course, this heatwave is really make me crunch the numbers.

We have a small 3bed/1 bath cape. How much would it cost for CAC (roughly)? Can I get it for my basement? Lastly (and probably most importantly), will this make my property taxes sky rocket?

we want it too! we just had a few estimates. cheapest one was 1 zone for the entire house (which I don't want) 2700 sqft house (4bedrooms 3 baths 2 stories) with no duct work in place it was going to be $9,200 through a friend of DH's not including electrical. I'm not sure if that was a discounted price because we know the owner but its a lot less then a few other companies.

you can have it in the basement. if you have a closet above the basement that is the best way to run the duct through there, if not it can be done its just a little more work

we paid $12k for a 2,400 raised ranch, top floor only because the lower level stays cool. even in this heat, we've never felt the need for it. We also put a vent in the floor to allow the cool air to flow down and heat to flow up.

As for taxes, it doesn't affect them!!

I paid 8,000 for 2 floors including duct work. I dont think you need a permit or if you did I didnt get one so no impact on taxes.

It is nice but not cost effective for a small house. If you floor plan is open enough use a 18,000 to 24,000 BTU in the wall unit. If you have more sun coming in use the higher unit. Cost around 600 for the unit and 300 to 500 for installation including electric.

Upstair bedrooms use the energy efficient units will thermostat controls. Window units but in wall units are nice but you would need to have them installed.

Also, look in to the MrSlim system it might work for you and cost less because it is ductless. See the link below
